  • The Cottage is located in historic East Poultney, Vermont, beside the former Poultney schoolhouse, now home to the local historical society. Guests can also relax and unwind in the private hot tub located on the property, perfect after a day of hiking, biking, skiing, or exploring the area.

    Surrounded by the beautiful Slate Valley hiking and biking trail system, the area offers the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and small-town charm. The village of Poultney is just one mile away and features restaurants, shops, stores, and a local pub. A sidewalk begins directly in front of the cottage and leads all the way into town, making it ideal for walking, jogging, or biking.

    Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate being less than an hour from Pico, Killington, and Bromley Mountains, while Lake St. Catherine is only 3 miles away and Lake Bomoseen is under 10 miles from the property.

    The Cottage itself was originally built in 1910 as a “Mother-in-Law” home. Though cozy in size, this charming two bedroom house is warm, comfortable, and full of character. The shower is beautifully crafted from locally sourced Vermont slate. Guests will enjoy all the comforts of home, including linens, kitchen essentials for preparing meals, strong WiFi, and cable TV with Roku.

    Guests have full access to the entire home, along with both the front and back yards.

    Additional Area Highlights:
    • The Poultney River, located less than a mile away, offers excellent swimming spots. Feel free to ask about access if interested.
    • Several golf courses are nearby:

    1. Lake St. Catherine Country Club – 5 minutes away (Poultney, VT)
    2. Milestone Golf Course – 4 miles away (Hampton, NY)
    3. Bomoseen Golf Club – 11 miles away (Bomoseen, VT)

    For hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts, Slate Valley Trails features a network of professionally built hand-crafted and machine-built singletrack trails open to non-motorized recreation. Search “Slate Valley Trails” online for maps and additional information.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage. There are some very good restaurants nearby and it is close to the Castleton campus. We also enjoyed some snowshoeing and mountain biking at Slate Valley Trails.

Cozy house perfect for family

My in-laws were in town for a week and this was the perfect place for them. Easily accessible entrance and bathroom. The house is clean and very comfortable. They had a great time. Thank you!

Great cottage for a ski vacation

The cottage had everything we needed to make our vacation perfect. It was well located to Ski Killington and Stratton. The host live right next door and was very responsive for all our needs to make the stay as pleasant as possible. We would definitely rent again.

This property was less than a few miles from our friend. The home was comfortable, had everything that you need for a trip and worked out perfectly. Really nicely decorated/renovated.

Comfortable cottage perfect for our needs

The location was perfect for us, close to family. The cottage is beautifully renovated and was very ready for us to move in for an extended stay. We hated leaving that shower! There's plenty to do within a short distance ... so many little businesses and beautiful places to explore! Very quiet, we slept very well in our comfortable bed! I took many morning strolls, such a pretty little area!

Graduation weekend!

This is a sweet and comfortable vintage little home. We especially appreciated the well stocked kitchen, and the washer, dryer and iron was a huge plus as well. The location is excellent, and the neighborhood has a few intriguing looking museums. Nate is a kind and understanding host, and was very tolerant of our surprise guests who showed up for the graduation. Thank you Nate!

A very cute, small ranch home located across from the East Poultney Village Green! Spent 5 nights in October 2025. The Host, Nate, was great to deal with, was easy to communicate with, and the check-in process was seamless! Very clean, well-stocked, large bathroom with a large walk-in tiled shower! A great location for us to visit family and friends. Very, very quiet at night, which was wonderful! A very cozy place to stay! Thanks, Nate!
