Crown Gardens was an excellent choice of accommodation in an excellent location. The area is beautiful with many walks for dogs (and humans). Rosedale Abbey has a pub and restaurant (Coach House Inn) plus a shop and two tea rooms; not much but all you need. Pickering with far more amenities is only about 10 miles away and easy to drive to.
The cottage was very comfortable and well appointed. The weather turned mid-week but we all remained cosy & warm. It was very nice to have an en-suite in every bedroom, no fighting over the bathroom.
We ate three times at the Coach House Inn which observed all of the necessary Covid precautions. The food was very good and portions generous. I can recommend the Desperate Dan pie and the Scampi. Also dog friendly. We also ate at the Butchers Arms in nearby Lastingham, also good food and Covid safe, but not dog friendly.
Beaches are not far away, Cayton Bay was especially nice for our dog as no seasonal restrictions on dog access. Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby etc all within easy reach (Robin Hood's Bay was very popular so parking an issue); plus the North Yorks scenery.
We found that the TV reception virtually disappeared during wet and windy weather. Perhaps if visiting in autumn/winter have a laptop and a HDMI cable - ask the owner permission to plug into the TV or set box - and watch iPlayer or similar as the internet seemed unaffected by the weather.
We were a bit worried about Covid but the owner had obviously done everything possible as we are all still OK over a week later; although between kitchen and range was dusty with a cobweb or two (not reassuring in a Covid clean environment).
We would definitely stay again.
