Great stay in Swarthmore

We stayed here while dropping our daughter off for her first year at college. It was comfortable for the three of us. The place is perfectly located next to campus and the train station. Russell was very good at communicating for check in and throughout our stay. Highly recommend.

Quaint and convenient

A code is available the day of arrival so you can get into the cottage on your own. The kitchen is small, but adequate. The fridge and freezer work well and they left us a small bag of ice, which came in handy. Stayed 3 nights and only supplied 3 large bath towels. Plus other various smaller towels. We could have used a few more of the larger bath towels, but we made do, and didn’t request any more. WiFi worked great. Water pressure in the shower was awesome. Parking was right in front of the unit and convenient. You can walk to the train station, Mexican restaurant, co-op grocery store and lots of great small shops within 3-4 minutes. We would definitely stay here again.

A deceptive listing on Vrbo. Not a “cottage” or a “bnb” as stated in the description. Exterior pics are of Swarthmore village and not this rental apartment situation in a dirty parking lot. Poor AI generated communication with the host. Arrived to a bed that looked like someone had just slept in, hair in the shower, and an old noisey air conditioner, and dirty towels hanging from the shower rod. Oh, did I mention the pile of cigarette butts outside the front door of the apartment. Whoever the owner is gets credit for hiring a professional photographer to make the interior look warm and welcoming. I guess you can do anything you with lighting and a camera, but the reality is the unit is dark, with a hodgepodge of furniture and wall decorations that all look like they came from a sale at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx. We left after one night and asked for a refund but no response from the host. We’ve filed a complaint with VrBo and if necessary will file a legal claim for misrepresentation.

When I arrived the temp was 85 degrees out, I turned on the a/c in unit while unloading the car. The first thing we noted was a ketchup packet ground into the mat at the door, we entered and there was trash and crumbs in the round coffee table, the carpet had not been vacuumed. After two hours the a/c was blowing hot air, I reached out to the host twice and got no response. My wife could not stay in the unit because it was to hot. I found a Hampton inn down the road for her, I stayed at the unit because of the dog we had. After multiple attempts to contact the host I ended up climbing a wrought iron fence and finding the a/ c unit that was the unit we were staying in. It was covered with hair, leaves, and other stuff. I cleaned it all off and climbed over the gate to get out, the a/c unit immediately started blowing cold air. The unit we paid to stay in was disgusting, every wall had dirt and grime on it , there were holes in two doors . The host never responded except for a programmed welcome letter which was frustrating. I had to pay for a overnight hotel stay. I would like my money refunded for half the stay and the rental should be taken down because it is not as presented. I contacted my attorney who had me take pics of everything. This place is horrible and the host was n where to be found. I included only two pictunder advice of my attorney

Cottage was in a great location! Easy checkin and check out. Love the proximity to shops, nature and my mother’s house. Had a small issue the first night since it was so hot and the AC wasn’t on before arrival. Despite the quaint space, it took a lot of time for it to cool down to a manageable temperature. Would recommend if arriving on a day over 85 that you request the AC be turned on the morning of your arrival for comfort.Few other items to note to future guests: be aware the designated parking space does require parallel parking skills and there isn’t actual laundry in the cottage, but is available for a fee at the laundromat nearby. The bed was very comfortable and overall the cottage was a great value for what I needed during my extended stay. Highly recommend Hobbes coffee around the corner and the atmosphere at Ship Bottom was fun and the CoOp/Farmers Market reminded me of my PNW roots. Will return.

Swarthmore is adorable! We did not find this unit to be as "quaint" as expected. We have had 2 highly successful rental properties with a 5.0 rating. The unit just didn't meet our standards. We checked out after one night. We highly recommend double checking the accuracy of the amenity descriptions (for the unit, not the area). We did not find any outdoor space for sitting or a grill. The AC did not keep the room cool enough for good sleeping and the bed is uncomfortable. The bedroom carpet needs a good cleaning or replacement. The microwave light needs replacing. There is extremely limited glassware. The freezer needs thawing. A couple more panels of drapes are needed to cover the entire window that gets the afternoon western sun. This is not a place I would consider staying ever again. Communication with the host is more like communicating with a bot....at the least, he is out of touch or not local.

A miserable three hours

Cigarette butts on the threshold and the smell of stale smoke and mildew as well as a dingy and stained carpet greeted us when we entered “cottage # 3”. This “suite” has just one window, a south-facing picture window that cannot be opened. For lack of any air circulation, the small space was both suffocatingly humid and hot. We therefore immediately turned on the noisy air conditioner, which sort of cooled down the bedroom but did nothing to cool the sitting room/kitchen. We decided to cut our losses and left three hours later.

A Magical Getaway

Our stay in Swarthmore was nothing short of magical! The house was spotless, cozy, and had everything we needed. Russell was a fantastic host—quick to respond and super helpful. The town itself is absolutely charming, with adorable shops and tasty restaurants just a short stroll away. We had such a great time, we’re already dreaming about our next visit!

Good Place to Sleep

Swarthmore is a cute little town to enjoy in between the trips to Kennett Square and Philadelphia. Really liked having parking right outside our front door. The place was clean and perfect for two people. We did have issues with checking in. We arrived a few minutes before 4:00, but couldn't check in until after 5:00 due to the cleaners being there still. We also never got the wifi working for our 3night stay, thank goodness we were able to get our work done at a local shop. Other than those two things, the place was great to sleep and shower in between sightseeing.

I can't rate any of the parking, lodging, area around the property as we were never able to access the property. We should have been able to check in at 4pm. We never got our check in information. So at 5pm, I started messaging the owner. No response to messaging through Expedia or VRBO. A call was answered by the owner who said they had email issues and would both text and email us the information for access the apartment and parking -- this call was at 6 pm after no answer to our messages. We did not get any information. Texted the phone number and after 30 min of no response called. No answer. I got a text at 0419 in the morning asking if I got his message. He knows we could not access the property as he said he lived next door. When I reported this to expedia asking for a refund for this weekend and my upcoming stay that it would not let me cancel -- I was told they would look into it. I am disappointed to say the least. We then had to book last minute lodging that was more than double the cost of our stay. I am not sure who I have less faith in now -- the owner or expedia. Best of luck to anyone considering this property.

It's a beautiful area

Some things weren't quite working right and it's wasn't spotless (clogging pipes and moldy old coffee grinds in the coffeemaker) but it was comfortable and the area was a sight to see. I just wish the host was more willing to communicate with me. Overall, I recommend the stay. I

Cute and well stocked apartment, close to everything, including train into Philly. Private parking is a plus, friendly and helpful host. Mixup with parking fob was only issue, definitely recommend

Comfortable, easy and convenient

I stayed in the cottage for 3 nights. I wanted to be near the college and this location couldn't be better for that and for super easy access by Septa (if you want to travel into the city). The cottage itself is small (but as described!), but very comfortable for 1 or 2 people. The bed is very comfortable, shower great, wifi good and really all you need. I would (will) stay again!

Comfort and Convenience

Accommodations fit our needs well and the location near (a few steps away) from the Septa stop make it convenient to the entire area. Hard to beat for a quick stay.

Cute and Convenient Cottage

My husband and I recently stayed for 18 days. We live in NC and were looking for a daily place to unwind and sleep after visiting with PA friends and family. The cottage suited our needs perfectly. It was tidy and comfortable. After an initial problem with the air conditioner, it was a comfortable stay. Russ was very apologetic and sent maintenance very quickly. It turned out that someone forgot to turn it on earlier in the day. It was a very hot day and it took some time to cool the place down. It worked perfectly well from that day forward. I only mention it because Russ went above and beyond to satisfy us. I took off one point only because the furnishings (particularly the sofa and oversized chair) were comfortable but tired looking and took up most of the living space. Perhaps a recliner would be less space invasive? We loved the location and enjoyed the convenience of the Co-Op, coffee shops and restaurants. We also appreciated that our little dog 🐶 was able to stay with us. Having our own parking space in front of the unit was a plus too. We will definitely stay again for short visits while in the area.

Just Amazing

This place never ceases to amaze us. This is our second time staying here and we absolutely loved it! This is such a cozy , warm, perfect, lovely place to be. You have the best of all worlds with the kitchen , living room, bedroom and kitchen. I would stay here time and time again! And the host is so lovely ! Thank you again for such a nice time !
