what a lovely get-away! We stayed 2 nights in the Garden Room.
PROS: super delicious, sumptuous breakfast. The pool was refreshing and in a very relaxing setting. I floated looking at the palm trees and puffy clouds above -- loved it. The property is elegantly appointed with antiques and decorated so beautifully that it transports you to the golden era when it was first built, 1925. The hotel is simply stunning. Don't forget to read about the history to find out which celebrities have stayed there. Also, walk up a path to sit at the spot which Albert Einstein used to go to.
The location is ideal: just a few blocks from all the restaurants, shops, bars (we recommend LA BONITA's for happy hour food (Monday-Thursday, starting at 2pm). On Thursday night they had a street market with vendors selling art, jewelry and people singing and playing music. The purpose for our trip was to attend a concert at The Plaza Theater and we were able to comfortably walk to it.
CONS: Minor. Our "Garden Room" had another guest above us and we could her him/her passing back and forth day and night. The room has a utility room where the water heater and other machines are located which make noise. Solution: provide a white noise machine which will camouflage the noise. We typically travel with a small white noise device, but we forgot to pack it.
