Loon Lodge is a spacious and reasonably well-furnished accommodation. Unfortunately, that is where the praise has to stop. There were too many things wrong after this that put this property on our "do not go" list.
Let me start with the biggest issue. We were kept awake half of the night of Aug 19-20 because of a faulty smoke alarm that went off twice starting at about 1:30 a.m. We spent about an hour and a half outside the lodge waiting for the fire department to show up twice to check the the premises out. Eventually they had to yank out the smoke detector before we could sleep. Our plans for the next day were completely shot, including a boat trip in Voyageur National Park for which we had bought tickets in advance. The lodge owner "apologized" for this problem, but that does not cut it. Smoke alarms need to be checked and replaced periodically, it is not acceptable to do this only when they exhibit faulty behavior, especially when you have someone else staying on the property and paying good money for the stay. The lodge owner is yet to take responsibility and make amends; it is especially irksome that the only "responsibility" he has taken is to inform us after we have left that the smoke alarm was really faulty and has now been replaced!
Other things indicate a similar lack of responsibility. The "Guest Information" is rather out-of-date. It should also not be describing activities 100 miles away, such as at Rainy Lake. Space limits listing other issues.
