"Not having stayed at the Valhalla for some time, on this visit we noticed that the facility was definitely looking rundown and in need of at least a thorough cleaning if not a major refurbishment. During check-in we had to avoid stepping through a large pool of water in front of the reception desk. The staff seemed oblivious to it.
Our room was not cleaned on our second day of the booking, with an explanation from the management that there was not enough cleaning staff at work that day. One front desk employee stated that in order to have the room cleaned we had to request this service each day. Shortly thereafter another front desk employee said that was incorrect and the room should be cleaned every day. Finally someone from maintenance brought clean towels and emptied the waste baskets, but apologized that he was not allowed to clean the room or make the bed (union issue?).
The main parking lot was roped off because of paving maintenance scheduled to start one week after our stay there. A notice to this effect was posted in the lobby. The lack of parking spaces resulted in many cars trying to access the lot despite the "no access" tape across the entrances; some times we had to resort to the same action, due to no availability in the secondary lot.
Restaurant staff were excellent, but the limited menu for both breakfast and dinner had almost no gluten-free options (my wife is celiac). The staff tried to accommodate her, but their hands were tied."
