City Cabin
Our little self-contained cabin is set on a small private section in the quiet neighbourhood just minutes by foot from New Plymouth's magnificent Pukekura Park. Surrounded by trees and garden, it has a private bedroom with a shower and toilet attached. Next door a separate conservatory space has a kitchen sink (along with kettle, microwave, toaster and hot plate), a cafe table and chairs and a chaise longue. It looks on to our house and garden. We have a friendly medium sized dog as well as chickens. We need our visitors to be vaccinated as we have people in our family who are immune compromised

I had a lovely short holiday and enjoyed the close proximity to the amazing world class Pukekura park. Great for cycling and walking distance to the city center . Very friendly helpful host and quiet street.
Shirley, is a wonderful host. This little cottage is a gem.It was peaceful, a beautiful garden and trees to enjoy.A great place to relax and had a lovely calming effect on us.
This is a lovely, quiet, small basic cabin, ideal for one or two nights, but would prefer more rooms if staying longer in New Plymouth. Shirley is a lovely host and the description of the cabin is as it was. Very handy & convenient to New Plymouth attractions.
We had a great stay at the city cabin. Shirley was a wonderful host who was proactive and responsive in her communication. The property is very nice and has a wonderful garden. Would definitely recommend.
Convenient location close to Pukekura Park, small cabin in garden setting. Comfortable bed and ensuite, kitchen facilities separate and fairly minimal for self catering.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shirley and Dave's wee bach. It had everything we needed, and is set in a beautiful garden space with plenty of birds enjoying kowhai and other offerings. Shirley and Dave are easygoing, hospitable hosts, and both very interesting people. Thanks again
Cosy little bedroom with ensuite, and lovely sunroom/kitchenette entered by an external door very close by. Lovely back-section garden with trees, birds, vege patch, hens and a friendly dog. Good parking. We enjoyed several chats with the friendly hosts who have interest in the arts and gardening as we also do.
Just needed a base while visiting family.
Took my small dog with me and it was great. Very friendly couple. A little odd the bedroom with ensuite was seperate from the conservatory that had the kitchen so you had to go outside to move between the 2 rooms. However it worked for my needs.
Perfect for our event at the Bowl of Brooklands. Shirley the host, is really friendly. The accommodation itself is perfect for a single or couple. All you need for a short getaway.
Lovely gardens and Lola the dog is so cute!
Only suggestion is for a pair of scissors for the kitchen area please.
We would love to come back and stay again next time we are in New Plymouth. Thank you

Solid place to stay. Backyard cabin across from the main house, which itself rests on subdivided properties that were once backyards. My first Verbo experience. 3 nights in mid-November 2025.
Negatives:
Parking on the street, Kitchen area is separate from the bed & bath, also looks like it was some form of a greenhouse that's been converted (clear cor. plastic roof), Kitchen not the best design: microwave position & tiny cube refrigerator door opening the wrong way & the countertop has some serious slope towards you. Shower stall has no waterproofing on the walls other than paint. Bedroom could lose the waldrobe closet & in it's place gain a table w/ compact metal chair. No TV. No A/C (just heat). No USB ports.
Positives:
Easy check-in. Room was quiet, clean, & comfortable. Water was instant hot. Compact kitchen with: microwave, cube refrig., kettle, toaster, glasses, plates, & silverware. Provided Coffee & several Teas (although at least three had expiry dates of 2023). Silverware/ceramics were clean. Recycling & composting (why does not everybody else do this?). Natural soap bars. Wi-fi worked well. Skylight provided plenty of natural light. Nice surrounding: flourishing veg. garden & friendly dog. Best water quality of all six places I staying at on the North Island. Check-out was easy.
Final thoughts:
I liked this place for it's qualities. But, it's not for everyone & can use some improvements. If priced right & the details work for you, give it a go.
The place was gorgeous, it had everything we needed. Shirley was extremely welcoming and very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and hope to stay again soon.!!
We found the property was suitable for our needs with every thing clean and tidy. Out host cpmmunicated well and gave great advice about gardens to visit durong the garden festival. Would not hesitate to book again.
