We stayed at the Laguna House and loved most things about the home.
Pros: THOSE VIEWS! They are absolutely stunning! And the nooks in the loft made for great morning coffee views.
Cons: that driveway is AWFUL! I called ahead to ensure we would not have any issues getting to the property due to weather conditions. The property manager told me there was a steep hill leading up to the house and the driveway was steep, but the property management company was responsible for plowing the driveways and the county did a very good job of plowing the roads up to the house, so we should be okay. Two miles into our journey we realized that was incorrect. The county was not plowing the roads around the house. In fact, the roads were 1 lane due to the snow and you had to pull off if there was oncoming traffic. Luckily there were nice locals who helped push us out of the snow when we got stuck on the side of the road due to this very scenario. To top it off, the driveway is so steep that it took numerous tries to get just 1 vehicle with 4WD to the top. We had to leave the other two at the bottom of the hill because they would not make it up. This was insanely inconvenient considering we had an 84 year old and 7 month pregnant woman staying for the weekend. Asking the two of them to walk up the driveway that was entirely iced over was not an option. An honest heads up would have been appreciated.
Additionally, the cabin could use a good cleaning, as there was hair in our silverware drawer the first time we opened it; there is not a couch in the basement as advertised; the sliding glass doors don't close appropriately, which causes an awful draft in the house; and 2 windows on the middle level either don't close appropriately or were left open at the top upon our arrival, making the house very cold, even with the heat on.
We have rented through Hills O'Brown before and love coming to the area, but struggle with the thought of staying through the company again after this experience.
