Calaveras Big Trees State Park features two magnificent groves of giant sequoia, as well as over six thousand acres of pine forest, campgrounds, picnic areas, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Calaveras County is also blessed with some spectacular caves and caverns, all of which are open to the public and offer a variety of tour options, including Mercer Caverns, Moaning Cavern and California Cavern.
Nearby Lake New Melones provides boating, water and jet skiing opportunities. The more adventurous can try whitewater rafting on the Class IV North Fork Stanislaus River, or flatwater kayaking or canoeing on one of the many beautiful alpine lakes in the Stanislaus National Forest. For you cyclists, there's no better way to enjoy a day in Murphys than on a bike.

Spent a wonderful 3 nights here for the Thanksgiving weekend. Great place, walking distance to Main Street. Loved that it was dog friendly! Had everything we needed for a family get away.
Perfect for 6 adults. Comfortable beds, enjoyed the hot tub, walking distance to food and wine, and located in a quiet neighborhood. The kitchen had everything we needed.
Beautiful, spacious house for a relaxing getaway. Host made a very welcoming environment and seamless check in and check out.
Badminton equipment was a lovely surprise and became part of our daily routine
We loved our stay. I got to enjoy my adult children and their spouses in a relaxed and comfortable setting. The home had everything we could ask for. Enjoyed how close of a walk it was to town and all the amenities. We had an amazing time. Thank you!
We met up in Murphy’s to celebrate family. The location is right in town, so very convenient. It’s also about 20 minutes away from white Pines lake
& we had a wonderful time there. It was an extremely hot few days so we were thrilled with the excellent air conditioning! Kitchen well stocked with cooking supplies & we made all our meals at home. A great spot to return to.oh and very comfy beds!
The location of this home is beyond perfect. The beds are all so cozy and the blankets are cozy and soft. The bathrooms are amazing with good water pressure. The hot tub... BONUS! The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need. Really a great place to stay while visiting Murphy's. This was our 2nd stay and we hope for more in the future.
We had a quick Labor Day run to Murphys.
Great location, very spacious home with a big yard to play in. You can’t beat the hot tub!
Clean home with plenty of amenities and 5 mi. Walk
Nice house, with large backyard and hot tub on back deck just as pictured. The beds were really comfy. Kitchen had everything needed, decent supply of cups, plates, and variety of pans. The best coffee shop located at the corner and easy walk to main Street. The property manager responded quickly with any questions.
My son had his fall break and I wanted to escape to nature. So with him being 11, we got to hike at big trees, went down into the caverns, and walked up and down the streets of Murphys with our little dog. The location was perfect and couldn’t have asked for a better setup for us. The hot tub was a great perk. Looking forward to going back again with my boyfriend so we can do the adult version (wineries) of this trip.
Location was absolutely wonderful, easy walk to downtown. Reasonably well stocked kitchen (but bring your own knives if you want sharp ones!), great back patio, BBQ worked. All the bedrooms were comfortable, there were lots of towels. We did not use the washer/dryer but there is one there.
This location is magical. We loved driving to see the Big Trees, local caverns, & Columbia state park (a gold rush town that has been preserved & is a living museum). The town of Murphy’s is adorable with shops and so many vineyard tasting rooms - and in walking distance from the property. We loved cooking at the property and enjoyed the hot tub- and eating out at many fabulous Murphy’s restaurants. The owners were super kind and made suggestions of activities for a family. Ask shop owners about history of buildings. Truly a treasure of an experience for history and wine lovers.
Home is very nice. 2 older couples. One end of home has bedroom and full bath. Other end of home has bedroom and bath with shower. Back porch very nice. We brought cushions for the chairs. We played badminton. Watched the squirrels and their antics. Very fun weekend. Great food, wine and fun with our wonderful friends.
We have stayed here one other time and loved it. Great location and nice home in great location. Unfortunately, the cabinets were recently stained and were still wet. We have several pairs of shorts and shirts which were stained while we prepared meals. Again, this is a great spot, just unfortunate timing on cabinet staining.
We stayed for Christmas with four adults (including one older family member with limited mobility) and an almost two-year-old. The kitchen had everything we needed to make big multi-course meals -the pots and pans in particular were really nice quality. The playpen and high chair were very helpful. It was pretty accessible for my elderly family member who can still negotiate a few steps, although wouldn’t be wheelchair-friendly. The hot tub was great and we really appreciated the extra towels. We loved walking around the corner to the local coffee shop and just a couple more blocks to everything in Murphys. Overall we had a great time and multiple family members asked us to share the listing for next time!
Amazing Birthday Getaway at a Charming VRBO in Murphys, CA!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at a wonderful home in Murphys, CA for my girlfriend's birthday weekend, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish!
First and foremost, the location of the place was superb. Nestled in the heart of Murphys, we were just steps away from fantastic shops and mouthwatering dining options. Exploring the charming streets and browsing through the unique boutiques added an extra touch of excitement to our getaway.
One of our favorite highlights was stumbling upon an incredible coffee shop conveniently situated on the corner. It proved to be the perfect spot to start our mornings, with flavorful brews and a cozy atmosphere. It truly set the tone for a relaxing and enjoyable day ahead.
The house itself exceeded our expectations. It was immaculately maintained and tastefully decorated, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from the comfortable furnishings to the well-equipped kitchen. It felt like a home away from home, providing us with all the comforts we needed for a memorable stay.
The host of the VRBO Home was exceptional. They were prompt in their communication, ensuring that all our needs were met and offering helpful local recommendations. Their thoughtfulness truly enhanced our experience and made us feel welcomed.
