Overall, we had a decent stay, but ...The positives: The air conditioning worked extremely well, which was appreciated in the Miami heat. The unit was spacious, and the deck was a nice place to relax. It was conveniently located near a grocery store and was in a quiet area away from the crowds and traffic of Miami. It's a good option for young families looking for a peaceful stay. We also enjoyed being next to the state park, which has a beautiful lighthouse and a nice beach to explore. That said, the listing photos were somewhat misleading. While the property has been updated, many of the improvements appear to be cosmetic (mostly paint), and the building still feels very much like a 1960s property. There were small maintenance issues, such as missing cabinet handles, that detracted from the experience. The kitchen was missing basic cleaning supplies, including dish soap, so we had to request some just to wash dishes between meals. There were also no beach towels, beach chairs, or other beach gear provided. The pool area looked much more impressive in the listing photos than it did in person. Also, during our visit the nearby beach had a significant amount of seaweed both on the sand and in the water, which made it less enjoyable for swimming. While that's obviously outside the owner's control, it's worth knowing if the beach is your primary reason for visiting. One final tip: if you're renting a car, be aware there is a toll every time you enter the island.
