We like the historic hotel vibe and its downtown location. An anchor like the Decker is vital for Main Street revitalization. We wished that the bar had been open on a Thursday evening, but the manager said the owner is working on leasing that operation. A lamp on both sides of the comfy bed would be most welcome.

The place was wonderful! I enjoyed my stay very much. Since it was a historic hotel, the bed was historic also. When I crawled in, it just brought back memories of staying at my grandma‘s house in an antique bed with slats. Loved this place!

The staff is friendly, the rooms clean. It is an older hotel, so don’t expect coffee makers in the room and outlets may be a little inconvenient. The atmosphere of the hotel is great for those that appreciate stepping back into history and seeing beautiful wood trim throughout the hotel.

Historic charm, great value — we'd stay again For Sure! Stayed Saturday night for $82. Such a quaint, old-world stay. The Decker House (built 1876-78, Italianate, on the National Register, 17 rooms with the grand staircase from local woods) is gorgeous — original woodwork, metal cornices, right at the top of Main Street and 5 minutes to Maquoketa Caves. Room was spotless and comfortable, staff was friendly, location and value are excellent. Only reason I'm marking amenities 3/5 is breakfast is light continental with good coffee. Everything else about the stay was great — we just walked to Main for a bigger breakfast later.

So disappointed this used to be a beautiful hotel with a restaurant & bar. It’s now tired & worn. Asked the elderly man at the desk 4 times how far away the fairgrounds was & never got an answer. The mattress was terrible & no drapes on windows just shades so the street light came in all night. Had a family wedding so it was convenient.

This is a old school classic hotel. Beautiful decor and very clean rooms. Only rated a 4 due to the free breakfast was very limited. There were 2 cereal options, fruit and yogurt. Was expecting a larger variety. Overall a great hotel
