Private Up North getaway - short walk to lake
10/10 Excellent
"Cute little two bedroom house with full kitchen and a working bbq grill in the backyard. Comfortable couch and recliners in the living room so we could binge old shows on the Roku TV. Disappointed the washing machine is currently out of order, but the dryer works so we were able to just wash our clothes at a laundromat and bring them back to dry. Not much water pressure in the shower, probably on a well or something. This was a nice place to kick back for a short break on our road trip, and Alpena is just about a half hour drive away where you can shop and see the shipwreck history of the area. Very clean home, bed not extremely firm but not too soft either. The air conditioner is in the kitchen and there is a floor fan that can blow air into the two bedrooms, but it could use a longer cord to it could get a little closer. So not a lot of air circulation in the bedrooms at night even with the windows open. But summer will be over soon! Would definitely book this home again, it was a good visit."

"This was a great place for us to stay with our family while visiting more of the family over in Spruce MI. The bedrooms worked out well and the property was described accurately. There is no AC, but it was cool enough while we were there not to mind. The game room was fun for the kids. We didn't do too much outside as we spent most of our time visiting family. Would rent again."

"The host was super responsive to any questions or concerns I had. It’s a cute cabin right across from the lake and has easy access to lots of beaches and trails around to hike and take dogs. Overall it was a pleasant stay. Only concerns were that there was no charcoal for the grill and no lighter for fire. And the outside of the home needs a good cleaning. Whole house covered in cobwebs and debris. But it worked for what we needed, a quiet weekend getaway to do some hikes with the dogs."

"I wish I could give a better overall review of the property, for it has great potential! If it weren't for the inability to check in, I'd rate it even higher. Though I believe in giving fair and honest reviews, without just complaining.The Good: The property outside is lovely and is right on the lake! Couldn't ask for a better location. They allow pets which is also great!I had been in communication on VRBO several times leading up to the stay with general questions. I'd talked to them 2 days before arrival. Then I'd even let them know that I was 20min out before arriving, just so we could avoid any issues and infer about the check in process. Received no reply.The Bad: Got to the property at 6:15pm (over 2hrs past check-in) and there was no one there to check me in. I called the contact that was given on VRBO and it was not the host, but a neighbor who helps with the property. She walked over and showed me to my room which had not yet been cleaned from the last person who had stayed. She then went and found the host by the water for me. I was offered another option, but when he opened that room, it was already (unknowingly) occupied . He asked if I could come back in less than an hour and he'd clean it. At first, standing in the dirty room with the smell of mildew, I was apprehensive, though said yes.Having already traveled 4 hours with my wife, young daughter, and old dog...we came back an hour later to check in at 7:15pm. We stayed our 4 nights and I give 4 stars."
Family fun with 3 Beachfront Cottages on Lake Huron

"Our family get together was enjoyable because we were not on top of each other every family had their own unit if we wanted alone time we had our own unit. Water pressure was an issue but was enough to take showers and the instant hot water was 5 stars treat. The place could really be a fantastic get away with a little TLC. Cleaning staff did not do a good job, baseboards were dirty, cobwebs throughout units. ovens were filthy and a couple of air condition units were not working but the units never felt hot or uncomfortable. All in all everyone had a great time on the beach, in the water and in the kayaks. Although I have pointed out some issues that could have made our vacation better, we had a lot of fun, fun, fun. And will probably book again next year."
