  • Kentucky State University was chartered in May 1886 as the State Normal School for Colored Persons, only the second state-supported institution of higher learning in Kentucky.[1] During the euphoria of Frankfort's 1886 centennial celebration, the city donated $1,500 towards the purchase of land for a new college on a bluff overlooking Frankfort. The new school formally opened on October 11, 1887, with three teachers, 55 students, and John H. Jackson as president.[1] Recitation Hall (now Jackson Hall), the college's first permanent building, was erected in that year. KSU became a land-grant college in 1890, and the departments of home economics, agriculture and mechanics were added to the school's curriculum.[1] The school produced its first graduating class of five students in the spring of that year. A high school was organized in 1893. This expansion continued into the 20th century in both name and program. In 1902, the name was changed to Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute for Colored Persons. The name was changed again in 1926 to Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored Persons.

The space was adorable and great for our weekend away. We enjoyed being in downtown Frankfort and the convenience of the location. It was loud when a train went by, and you could hear the pedestrian sign beeping at night. All in all great experience though!

Great apartment! We were nervous about the train being so close and the restaurant & bar beneath but it was quieter than expected! Walking distance to all of downtown was a huge plus.

Everything was good except internet

No real complaints about anything except that there was basically no internet connection. I think you just connect to the restaurants WiFi but since you’re up a floor it was pretty bad. Couldn’t connect at all on most devices and the one laptop that saw the network only ever got one bar and regularly dropped off.

Cozy and Convenient!!

Property was just as described. Very clean and comfortable. Barely heard anything from the restaurant downstairs which was a potential concern. While not frequent, a train comes though downtown right out front at least once a day - only woke us up once. The TV had plenty of streaming services available, but a DVD player would be nice, at least on the main TV to allow us to play some of the movies we brought. Still, we highly recommend a stay here.

College recruiting stay KSU

Right in the heart of town. Easy to walk to restaurants and KSU. Quiet except for train that comes through town late at night but you get use to it. We will stay here again if he decides to commit to KSU! Go thoroughbreds
