Steeped in harbour history, Granary Bay occupies half of the ground floor of the original Elie Granary – the 1805 grain store that once served the village harbour. Today, it’s a self-contained, characterful apartment that’s been cleverly upgraded to give the feel of being aboard a boat, with wood, detailing and layout all echoing its maritime setting. Step outside and you’re only metres from the harbour beach, with big-sky sea views over the bay and coastal walks starting almost from your front door. There’s residents’ parking for one car, Wi-Fi throughout and space for up to two dogs (supplement applies), so the whole family can enjoy a stay by the water.
Inside, the open-plan living, dining and kitchen space is designed for relaxed, easy-going breaks. The lounge area includes a TV, DVD player and a double sofa bed for extra flexibility, while the dining table seats up to six – perfect for simple suppers after days on the sand or exploring nearby East Neuk villages. The fitted kitchen keeps self-catering straightforward, with an electric oven, gas hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer all on hand.
Sleeping arrangements work well for families or sharing friends. The cosy double bedroom has the bed set into the wall on one side in true cabin style, and there’s a separate bunk room with full-size adult bunk beds (if a young child is using the upper bunk, guests are asked to bring a portable guard). A compact shower room with WC and wash hand basin completes the layout.
From Granary Bay, you can wander straight out to the harbour, beach and coastal paths, stroll along to Elie’s cafés, the Ship Inn and watersports, or head further afield to St Andrews and the wider East Neuk for days of golf, sea air and good food. Our local St Andrews-based team are on hand with insider tips and easy, direct booking to keep your stay as smooth as the tides outside.
