Ledson Winery and Vineyards is a charming family wine estate housed in a black castle of French Norman design. It has elegant gardens in front and a range of wines to try within. Sip from the range of acclaimed wines in the impressive surroundings of the castle.
Meet the friendly concierge in the castle and learn about the history of the structure. The docent will accompany you to the walk-in tasting area. Go to the various bars and try some of the 70 Ledson grape varieties. These include reds, whites and dessert wines.
Stroll through the pristine gardens and enjoy the serene ambiance here. Relax in the shade of 100-year-old oak trees and enjoy a picnic in the designated areas with a backdrop of the scenic vineyards.
Browse the array of items for sale in the boutique gift shop, where you will find clothing, coffee table books, jewelry and other souvenirs. Visit the Ledson Winery Marketplace and choose from salads, sandwiches and snacks. The market also has many condiments, cheeses, jams and other ingredients.
Note that the castle was initially intended as the Ledson family home in 1989, before they decided to use it for the winery. You can also purchase Ledson wines in nearby Kenwood, online or at the Ledson Hotel in Sonoma.
The structure, which is known internationally as the Castle, is open daily from morning until late afternoon. There is a fee for a public tasting. For somewhat more you can enjoy a private suite with a wine consultant.
Ledson Winery and Vineyards is in Oakmont, about 3 miles (5 kilometers) northwest of Kenwood in the Sonoma Valley. Take a bus to travel between these spots in 30 minutes or drive the distance in less than 10 minutes.
