We were very warmly welcomed and everyone did the best to make the best of our stay- a pleasant surprise were the bicycles we good use, even free of charge. The japanese breakfast was great.
Great location, just minutes from Kyoto station (although it took us forever to figure out how to get out of the station!) we had a very comfortable one night here in a this traditional ryokan. Very friendly staff and we enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast before checking out. It was located on a side street between other ryokans also. Would recommend for travelers wanting to experience a quieter and traditional and classic ryokan.
Beautiful, peaceful even if very close to the station. Great location, great dinner and breakfast. Thanks!

Humble ryokan in Kyoto. The building and facilities are a bit dated, nothing fancy but does the job.
Public bath available until midnight. Breakfast included and it was very good.
It was our first time staying at a Ryokan. The room was clean and very comfortable, especially the beds. The dinner and breakfast was phenomenal. Service was smooth and very good. It was an amazing experience. We left feeling well rested.
Visited with my family of 4 and had a wonderful experience. Very close to the metro and lots of restaurants. The area was very walkable and convenient. The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain everything as this was our first ryokan experience. The facilities were clean and comfortable. I would definitely come back and would recommend to others!

Comfortable and convenient
This was a great base for visiting Kyoto, near the station and easy to find. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The breakfasts were delicious and had lots of choice. Not all the front desk staff spoke English, but they were friendly and helpful, and we got sorted everything out, including sending our luggage back to Tokyo successfully.
Staying at Hifumi Ryokan was awesome! The staff there was always ready to help out and some even knew some English!
The room itself was comfortable and sleeping on the futons was not much different than sleeping on a regular bed. The breakfast was very traditional and has good and bad points to it if you are not used to it.
However, the location of Hifumi cannot be understated. It is right next to Kyoto Station so it is very easy to go to places like Osaka or Nara for the day and come back.

We spend almost 30 minutes at the front desk for them to locate our reservations. Showed them the confirmation over and over but still have problems finding our reservations. Language is also a problem and when they finally found the reservations and show us to our room, the room was not even ready. No towels and only 1 set of kimonos. Room is very small and old, bathroom extremely small. Really not worth what we’re paying for. Only thing is location very convenient

Pros and Cons. Pros: The hotel staff is very friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. The food is plentiful and they go out of their way to give a full range of traditional Japanese food. Cons: The hotel is dated and while the rooms are clean, they are somewhat worn and run-down. For example, holes in the screens, worn carpet, older fixtures, stains on walls, etc. The location is excellent (5 min walk from Kyoto station and a block away from a convenience store). The food experience was fun for our family of 5. Our only food suggestion would be to have more of an explanation for what we were eating (but it was a bit of an adventure to try new things). Overall, staying here is not a bad choice. It just seems that for the money, it should have been a little better maintained.
Pros:
Walking distance from Kyoto station
Breakfast was excellent
If you pick the half board option, you will also be served a traditional Japan dinner which is an amazing experience
Cons:
Shared public bath might come as a cultural shock to some
Extremely convenient location (5min walk from JR Kyoto Station), and they will help to store baggages for you after checkout! Lovely staff. Dinner was also delicious.
Convenient location very close to Kyoto station. Staffs are very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast and dinner are unforgettable.
We are happy to stay in ryokan instead chain hotel in Kyoto.
Unique experience!
The entire time in this ryokan was amazing. such a convenient location to the Kyoto Station - made it easy to travel around.
English is somewhat minimal with staff, but they understood us and they were so accommodating. Everyone was so friendly and nice! We had such a great time there. We appreciated the kimonos/yukatas we got to wear. The bath house was great, not too hot.
AMAZING! Highly recommend to anyone!
