About this property
Historic Mid-Century Modern Gem
This one-of-a-kind mid-century modern gem is on the National Register of Historic Places. Nestled on a wooded private lot, it has an open floor plan with a stone fireplace, marble floors, built-ins, and is only minutes from downtown. Called the Daniel House, this unique house was built in 1948 and is a wonderful example of mid-century modern architecture.
Uniquely built into a hillside from salvaged Quonset hut structural supports, the house is only 10 minutes to downtown Knoxville (and the stadium) but offers a lot of privacy due to the wooded lot. Guests will love the distinctive architectural features and its use of indigenous local materials, including the marble slab walls and floors. There is a Quenn-sized Tempurapedic bed in the master bedroom and also a queen in the guest bedroom. A 50" flat screen TV with DVD player, cable, and wireless internet is also provided. The house is complete with all amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and a garage for your car. Plus, when you arrive you will find plenty of soda, water, coffee, tea, and goodies awaiting you!

What an amazing vibe to stay in such a uniquely rare and historic setting! Our host recommended spending time at Market square during our visit and it didn’t disappoint! Knoxville is a beautiful place to visit and this place was icing on the cake! Hope to stay there again!!!
This place was truly unique! We really appreciated the architecture of the house! Very quiet area and all the windows in the house allowed us to appreciate the landscape. The house is close to UT and the airport. That was perfect for us because we had an event at UT and we needed to get our friends to the airport. Great place.
I have stayed in no less than 50 vrbo’s throughout the country and this place is an absolute gem for the Knoxville area. Minutes from everywhere, the home provides a unique space for entertaining, working or just simply relaxing. Daniel House with its updated utilities juxtaposed to its Warhol-ish design is the perfect dinner party setting. Saturdays next fall should be magical. If able, you should definitely plan your trip to Knoxville around DanielHouse’s availability. Five stars.
The Daniel house is so specail. It brings you back in time and it just put me, my wife and our 2 guests in a state of relaxation and peace.
The site itself is tucked away and even though you're a stones throw away from downtown Knoxville it feels like your in the country. Every time I walked around I found amazingly crafted details (being an Architecture graduate and developer I guess adds to my nerdiness) that I marveled at.
The owner had a binder that had articles of how this building came to existance. I think I spent an entire afternoon alone reading about the houses history.
As far as the condition of the house, it was very clean and well maintained.
I highly recommend staying at the Daniel House and so glad we chose this is our lodging destination while in Knoxville.
This architectural gem was exceptional! We were here for 5 days over Christmas and it exceeded all expectations. Very comfortable, with thoughtfully curated furnishings throughout and everything you need. The bed I slept in was so comfortable that I’m thinking of buying one just like it for home. Candace went above and beyond to make our stay a delight. The holiday decorations and Christmas tree were a wonderful touch. We hope to stay here again whenever our travel takes us to Knoxville!
The house is very special. It has lots of space and everything you need as a home away from home. My family enjoyed the fabulous design and attentive things the owner left for us. Everything worked out great.
This property was an unexpected gem in the heart of Knoxville. Even though it is so close to town, the property is secluded and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed the architecture and the amenities. Most probably, we will stay there again.
This was really a one-of-a-kind property in a beautiful location. Everything was beautifully decorated and modern. It felt like one of those houses you see in the movies. It's nice that the owner includes a lot of material to read about the house, how it was built and just a lot of the history of the house. This is a gem, and I would definitely stay again if I'm in the Knnoxville area.
Our family stayed at the Daniel house while doing a campus visit at UTK. The home was very close to campus and had all we could ask for in amenities. Candace was super easy to communicate with. If our son decides UTK is his choice for college, we will definitely stay there again.

Beautiful architecture/ unbearable air quality
This is an amazing architectural home with high levels of dust and mildew . A constantly running dehumidifier greeted us at the door and the smell of mildew was pervasive throughout the house. This was exascerbated by the air exchange system which blew out high levels of dust and mildew . This was an untenable situation and with the owners agreement we left within an hour.
This is one of the coolest houses we have stayed in. We enjoyed reading the articles about this modern home and how/when it was built. The decor was great and we enjoyed sitting in the various areas of the house. Loved the large yard and played bocce ball from home. The location was good for us and also because Knoxville is not a very large city. It was convenient to downtown, Ijam's and a drive to the Great Smoky Mt. National Park for some hiking. House was well equipped. Beds were comfy. Owner was friendly and helpful. The house and garage were very easy to access. We had a beautiful cardinal hanging around each day, some raccoon friends at night, and we could hear the cicadas going crazy in the trees. We really enjoyed this very unique space.
I hoped that the house would be as interesting and fun as it looked in the photos and we were not disappointed. One of the most unique VRBO’s that I have stayed in. We were going to a football game at UT and it is very close and convenient to the campus. We had a lot of fun at the house and will stay again on our next trip to Knoxville. Candace was very responsive as we had a few questions when we arrived. Nothing came up where we needed her later, which was good news.
This home was perfect for a weekend in Knoxville. We enjoyed the midcentury charm. The home has multiple sitting areas both inside and outside. We look forward to staying here again.
We were in town to move my daughter into her dorm at UTK and wanted to add a little magic to the trip. This house is gorgeous and so close to everything.
This is a very unique property and it lived up to my expectations. Sometimes property doesn’t live up to the photos, but that was not the case. A very unique house and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay
