Kihei, Kauhale Makai, Spacious 4 BR, Beachfront, Sleeps 12
- Summary:
Bring the whole group to Kauhale Makai, "Village by the Sea," a 169-unit oceanfront condominium resort in North Kihei with sand running straight out the back of the property. Your reservation includes two private 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condos: four bedrooms and four bathrooms in all, two full kitchens, two living rooms and two private lanais, with the oceanfront pool, hot tub, sauna, putting green and barbecue area just outside.
What we guarantee: Both condos are always inside Kauhale Makai. Unit A is a 2-bedroom condo and Unit B is a 2-bedroom condo, with exactly the beds listed below in every bedroom. Each home has the view shown for it in its photos. Both homes are kept to the same quality standard, with finishes similar to what you see in these photos. If we ever could not deliver that, you would approve the alternative first or receive a full refund.
Bed types: Unit A - Master Bedroom: King; Bedroom 2: Queen. Living room sofa bed; Unit B - Master Bedroom: King; Bedroom 2: Queen. Living room sofa bed.
The 4 bedrooms sleep 8 guests at 2 per bedroom, and the sleeper sofa in each living room sleeps 2 more, adding 4 additional guests for a combined maximum of 12.
Both condos share the same comfortable plan: a primary bedroom with a king bed, a second bedroom with a queen bed, two full bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a living and dining area with a sleeper sofa, and a private lanai. It is an easy, even split for two families or two couples traveling together, with nobody stuck with the smaller bed.
Good to know before you book: each condo has its own front door and its own entry details, so the two halves of the group keep their own schedules. Kauhale Makai has two six-story buildings served by elevators, a guest registration lobby with full-time front office staff, and Wi-Fi throughout the property. There is a 4-night minimum, with check-in from 3 PM and check-out by 11 AM.
The Space:
Unit A (2BR): Unit A is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo with an open living and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen and a private lanai for morning coffee and sunset watching. The primary bedroom has a king bed and the second bedroom has a queen bed, and each is served by a full bathroom. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, cookware and dishes, everything needed for a big breakfast before the beach or a family dinner at home. The living room sofa opens into a bed for two more guests, bringing this home to 6.
Unit B (2BR): Unit B offers the same practical layout, with a king primary bedroom, a queen second bedroom, two full bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a living and dining area that opens to its own lanai. A sleeper sofa in the living room adds space for two more guests, for a total of 6 in this home.
The resort: Kauhale Makai is a well-established oceanfront community of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom condos set in two six-story buildings with elevators. The grounds include an adult swimming pool, a children's wading pool, a hot tub spa, a sauna, a golf putting green, and a barbecue area with four grills, tiki torches and tables, and the sunsets from the lawn are magnificent. The property borders Waipuilani County Park, with six tennis courts, two shuffleboard courts, volleyball and Waipuilani Beach, a quiet stretch that is perfect for morning jogs, long walks and sunbathing. Calm mornings bring out kayakers and the local canoe clubs, and on trade-wind afternoons the bay fills with colorful windsurfers, kitesurfers and stand-up paddlers. Both condos are inside Kauhale Makai, so the whole group shares the same pools, grills and beachfront lawn. Booking two condos in the same resort rather than one large house gives a group the best of both: everyone gathers for meals, pool afternoons and sunsets, and then each family or couple has its own kitchen, living room and lanai to retreat to, so early risers and night owls never get in each other's way.
Guest Access:
Your reservation includes the private interiors of both condos, each with its own front door and its own entry details, plus the shared Kauhale Makai amenities: the adult swimming pool, children's wading pool, hot tub spa, sauna, golf putting green, the barbecue area with tables and tiki torches, the elevators and the oceanfront lawn, along with Wi-Fi throughout the property.
The Neighborhood:
North Kihei is the quieter, residential end of South Maui's beach town, where the shoreline curves toward Maalaea and the West Maui Mountains rise across the bay. Kalepolepo Beach Park is about a 9-minute walk from Kauhale Makai, and long, golden Sugar Beach, which runs north toward Maalaea, is only minutes away. The famous Kamaole beach parks, with lifeguards, soft sand and calm morning water, are a short drive south along South Kihei Road.
Kihei's restaurants, coffee shops, shave ice stands, farmers markets and grocery stores line South Kihei Road within a few minutes' drive, from casual poke and plate-lunch counters to oceanfront dining. Maalaea Harbor, the departure point for most Molokini Crater snorkel cruises and winter whale-watching trips, is a short drive north, and the Maui Ocean Center aquarium sits right beside it. Wailea's resort beaches, the Wailea Beach Path and The Shops at Wailea are a short drive south, and the Kihei Boat Ramp farther down South Kihei Road is another launch point for snorkel and whale-watching trips.
Winter is whale season, and the shallow, protected waters off Kihei are among the best places in Hawaii to watch humpbacks, often right from the shore. Upcountry Maui and the road to Haleakala National Park are easy day trips from this central location.
Getting Around:
Kahului Airport (OGG) is north of Kihei along the Mokulele Highway, and North Kihei is one of the quickest South Maui drives from the airport. A rental car is the easiest way to explore the rest of Maui, from Haleakala and Upcountry to the Road to Hana and the West Maui coast. Kalepolepo Beach Park is within walking distance of the resort, and the shops and restaurants along South Kihei Road are a short drive. Rideshare operates on Maui, and airport pickups are easiest to arrange in advance.
Other Things to Note:
Arrival instructions, entry details and parking information for both condos are provided with your reservation.
