Save yourself a lot hassle and book elsewhere

So at first I was a little anxoius because I had read the bad reviews. (When we booked the host had none yet.) But Kristen eventually got in touch via WhatsApp and answered my questions. She said we'd be staying in her personal unit which would be bigger and better than the one advertised.On the day we travelled I got a message saying unfortunately, the apartment was not cleaned and if we wanted to either cancel or stay anyway we'd get a day for free. Since we had nowhere else to stay we decided to see what we thought.We got into the apartment with help from both the other tenents since we didn't know which one we'd be staying in. Thankfully there were in. There was no light in the hallway, the neighbour/tenent next door knew that there was a second key hidden on the landing that we needed.The apartment was really dirty. Used towels on the floors, the fridge full of used products, animal hairs everywhere and a lot of personal items including prescription drugs. The downstairs tenents said there were no clean sheets in the basement that we could have used to change the beds. So we could not stay there and had to check into a hotel nearby since the host didn't answer her phone and neither did vrbo support.

Not happy

The place was not cleaned bathrooms bedroom was dirty I had to buy cleaning products dog food was on the table refrigerator was full of spoiled food I left a day early not satisfied at all

I was not in the property I booked. The owner told me this was her personal unit with “some” of her personal items in it. It was her apartment that had all of her personal effects and had not been cleaned. The trash was full, the dishwasher stunk, there were no cleaning supplies or paper towels. When I asked about not being in the unit I booked, she got defensive and told me this was a bigger unit and that my daughter could sleep in the loft. The loft smelled like cat piss and was cramped full of stuff. Be careful booking with this owner. The location was great, just wish I had been in the unit I requested.

Ghosted In New Jersey

Despite booking our travel more than 10 days in advance, we got completely ghosted by the host. I thought that maybe she was just waiting until the day of to send us the details about accessing the property, etc, but no. No respinse in the app and no amswering of phone.We were traveling to NYC for an important business meeting, with our kids, and the stress of not havinga place to go when we landed at the airport was aweful.VRBO customer support was great, thank god, and we were able to find alternate accommodations. This definitely rattles my confidence on using the site again for future trips, however. Property owners who do this should not be allowed to participate on the site.
