It was our first trip to The Bahamas and we rented one of the two buildings at Buttonwood Reserve.
We enjoyed our stay, had a good time, the only not-so-good part was being seriously bitten by no-see-ums. These biting midges got indoors as well and some of us had to deal with them even during the night. As soon as the sun would set, you had to run inside without being able to enjoy the nice warm evenings outside. If you get bitten by mosquitoes a lot, (plenty of them on the islands too), chances are that these no-see-ums will be attracted to you as well. Don’t let them scare you away though, in case you’re planning to vacation on the island(s), just be prepared and do your homework (we didn’t…)
Booking the trip was extremely easy with the great help and abundance of information provided by the property manager. Matt Simon and his team were all very responsive before, during and after the trip. Condos were clean and we all felt comfortable. All the staff was professional, friendly and promptly providing whatever was missing and we had to ask for.
The Caribbean is really close, just downhill from the condos and across the highway. It’s presented as a “beach”, but it’s really rocky and right next to the “Queen’s HWY” which makes it a bit noisy and not too private. You can carry the kayaks and/or the paddle board there and enjoy the calm lake-like sea. Snorkeling is not the best there, but sunsets over the Caribbean are gorgeous.
Having one golf cart per unit was excellent, since the Atlantic beach is about 1 mile away (estimated). Beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie-boards, basically everything you’ll need, has to be carried back and forth every day. On the Atlantic beach was nothing but a fallen down palapa, obviously unusable!
These golf carts are in a pretty poor technical condition and two of them had to be fixed during our stay, but then so are most vehicles on the island…. Bicycles were unusable having missing pedals and flat tires
They are building a clubhouse on the property right between the two existing buildings, expect construction activities, delivery trucks and so on if you’re planning to stay there in the near future. This is also something that was left out of the otherwise very in depth presentation …
More than likely, we will go back to the islands in the future and we would certainly recommend this place for your stay!
