If you visit Humbolt Redwoods State Park, go in off of CA-101 to the west edge of the park and return to CA-101 the same way. DO NOT continue on to Mattole Rd going to Ferndale, CA. That is a HIGHWAY FROM HELL. The road condition is the worst pothole ridden road with gravel road stretches I've ever been on. If the road had been well maintained, it would have been an enjoyable ride through beautiful country and along the Pacific coast.
