"Simple no-frills. Welcoming staff. Problem/. The room’s heat/AC unit was very very loud and, to make it worse cycled on & off every few minutes. Walking by the exterior wall of a few other rooms, i noticed that their heat/AC units were also very noisy… not broken noisy… just cheap"

I would expect to be upgraded for the inconvenience, not downgraded. This reservation issue was not caused by me, and I am very disappointed with how this situation was handled. "This property is beautiful, we loved sitting at the water around the fire all morning. When the sun comes up right across the water above the trees it is amazing. The train that goes across the water to the right isn’t too loud. The cottage was clean and cozy the only downside was that I couldn’t figure out how to work the fireplace. "
