"Beautiful place welcoming staff"

"15th x in Dominican.10th x at Ocean Blue. Spent 9 nights. Paid extra for Privilege, and thought it was worth it because you get a great room in building 10 closest to the ocean, separate served breakfast restaurant reserved for Privilege only by the beach, personal butler that takes care of making reservations, answering questions and handling requests, cabanas on the beach exclusive to Privilege, but most important to us was having a private area by the party pool where you are essentially guaranteed to get lawn chairs. Food was great. Always good selection at the buffet. We especially liked the following reservation sit down restaurants: Japanese Hibachi, French (which required wearing long pants and adults only), and the Steak restaurant. Mike’s Coffee is great. It’s like a Starbucks and is open all day. Gelato place was great. Open late afternoon through mid-late evening. The Piano bar in the lobby was our favorite for evening entertainment. Good service Javier, and piano player. Lots for kids to do. Besides the normal pool and beach stuff, they have a family night spot with bowling alley, Play Stations, pool tables, ping pong, board games. It’s very safe & somewhere where you can leave a 9-15 year old to hang out with other kids while you enjoy drinks or coffee nearby. Bring small bills for tips as the people serving you make less in a year than you are spending on your trip. Halloween candy & makeup are also a huge hit for tips. Feel free to post questions "

"We have stayed in Excellence resorts twice before (Punta Cana and Playa Mujeres). When we checked in to the Excellence El Carmen, we did have a few somewhat minor, but annoying issues: 1) No hand soap in the bathroom (they use bath gel near the sinks, but we didn’t have that either). 2) The table in the living area still had drink rings on it from a previous guest. 3) There was no “Do Not Disturb” sign in our room. Also, the hot/cold knobs in the bathroom were reversed, so turning the “cold” knob turned on the hot water. No major issues, but it felt like a lack of attention to detail that was surprising for an Excellence resort. The resort grounds were amazing and immaculate. Definitely made the stay feel like we were at a true luxury resort Dining was a bit of an issue. We had a group of five and we found we generally had to wait between 30-60mins for a table for most lunches and dinners. We managed it by getting on the waitlist before we were hungry, but seems like an issue that could be managed by opening another restaurant or having more staff/tables in the existing restaurants. Room service was terrible. We called for two items and were told it would take 30mins, but it took around 1hr 15mins to get the food. The Guest Experience staff, specifically Dilson, was great in recognizing the issues and making some special arrangements for us to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. His efforts definitely helped improve our experience and how we felt about our stay. "
