History:

Nestled on a spacious rural residential property, the home is accessed via a striking circular driveway lined with trees, setting a tranquil tone from the moment you arrive. Originally designed in 1892 by renowned Dunedin architect Francis Petre, whose work is celebrated in Catholic churches from the late 1800s, this deconsecrated church was thoughtfully converted into a cosy one-bedroom home in the 1980s.

Ground Level:

Inside, you’ll find timeless charm at every turn, with beautiful wooden floors, doors, storage, and seating adding warmth and texture. The fully equipped kitchen, adorned with stunning stained-glass windows, radiates character, while the fireplace invites you to unwind on cosy evenings. The tiled bathroom offers underfloor heating for a luxurious touch.

Second Level:

Upstairs, the loft mezzanine serves as a private sanctuary with a spacious bed and a cosy seating area—perfect for romantic getaways. Step outside to enjoy the outdoor seating area and take in the serenity of the expansive grounds, offering a peaceful escape from the everyday.

This converted church is set in the tranquil rural area of Hawea Flat, surrounded by open landscapes and peaceful charm. Wanaka, just 15 minutes away, offers a vibrant atmosphere with boutique shops, delicious eateries, and a range of outdoor activities. Meanwhile, Lake Hawea, only 10 minutes from the property, provides a quieter escape with its crystal-clear waters, stunning mountain views, a handy supermarket, and a cosy café—perfect for a relaxed and laid-back experience.
OUR STRICT RULES:

No loud noise outside after 10:00 pm:
As we are situated in a residential area, we kindly request that you refrain from creating any disruptive noise after 10:00 pm. Our neighbours have been informed to notify us of any excessive noise disturbances. If you anticipate difficulty adhering to this rule, we kindly ask that you reconsider booking with us.

Minimum age requirement:
Guests must be 25 years or older to book this property. The primary guest must be staying for the duration of the reservation and may be asked to provide ID for verification.

No parties without prior approval:
Any gatherings or events require prior approval, and unauthorised parties will result in the immediate cancellation of your reservation with no refund. Please note there may be an additional fee for hosting extra guests if approved.

Checkout is at 10:00 am:
We kindly request that you check out by 10:00 am on the day of departure. If you require a late checkout, please submit your request at least 24 hours in advance. Late checkouts are subject to availability.

No smoking inside the property:
Smoking—including the use of any recreational drugs—is strictly prohibited inside the premises.

Leave the property in a reasonable state:
We expect the property to be left in a reasonable and tidy condition upon departure. Any additional cleaning required beyond standard procedures will be charged at $60 per hour. Please promptly report any damages, spills, or stains during your stay. If necessary, you may be held responsible for replacement or professional cleaning costs.

Board games:
We love that guests enjoy our games, but please ensure all games are returned to their original boxes before departure. As reassembling games is a time-consuming task, a $60 charge will apply if the cleaner needs to complete this.

BBQ cleaning:
The BBQ and utensils must be cleaned after each use by the guest. Failure to do so will result in a $100 cleaning charge.
