Welcome to Glamphouse Muskoka! We are so happy to have you and we hope you are able to disconnect and enjoy all Muskoka has to offer.
Here are few things to know as you prepare for your stay with us:
1. Water - potable water is provided in jugs under the cabinet in the Kitchen - the faucet in the sink is supplied by a foot pump on the floor - to heat up water for washing the dishes, use the provided kettle and side burner of the BBQ - Instructions for changing the water jugs, refilling, and emptying grey water tanks are located under the counter. ALWAYS empty grey water whenever switching freshwater jugs. - Grey water is captured from the sink drain in a white jug under the counter. - To empty the grey water tank simply unscrew the white cap (you may need to turn the jug instead of the cap due to the stiffness of the drain hose) and then dispose of the grey water in the Grey Water pit located behind the Outhouse - The Grey Water pit is constructed with multiple layers of gravel, sand, screenings, chips, etc. to create a natural filtering system. This is done to minimize environmental impact. - Please DO NOT put chemicals, food scraps, or grease down the drain. Instead, please dispose of these items in the garbage. Food scraps emptied in the Grey Water pit will attract animals including bears. So, again please put food scraps in your garbage and not down the drain.
2. Off-grid lighting - This is an off-grid accommodation with No Electricity. - Interior and Exterior lighting is provided by a combination of solar charged and battery powered lights. There are small remote controls affixed to the wall inside the front door to control the interior lights and gazebo lights. The puck lights have an auto shut off setting designed to conserve battery power, set using the remote. Note: The chandelier only works at night when it is dark outside. Should any of the lights not work, we have extra batteries if needed to replace. - There are Exterior solar pathway lights as well as motion-sensing parking pad and entryway lights. - Flashlights are also provided in the kitchen drawer. - We suggest turning your phone off and leveraging this time to ‘disconnect to reconnect’ ; however, if you would like to charge your phone, we suggest bringing a power pack or using your vehicle. - Gas powered generators are NOT PERMITTED.
3. Food & Cooking - Cooking utensils and amenities are provided. Use the propane BBQ for cooking. - To keep food cold there is a Chilly Moose cooler in the kitchenette. You will need to provide your own ICE. - Please ensure all food is stored indoors. DO NOT leave any food outside as it will attract animals. - Coffee and tea are provided. There is also a bodum/french press. You will need to supply your own sugar and milk/cream, etc. - There is a propane side burner on the BBQ to boil water for coffee and cook. Pot and pan are provided.
4. Outhouse - Toilet facilities are located in a separate outhouse building - The toilet consists of a Self-Contained Composting Toilet. Daily use directions are in the outhouse. - NO Wipes, Tampons or Pads in the Toilet. They do not compost. Throw these in the garbage bin. - Amenities such as toilet paper, wipes, and sanitizer are provided.
5. Fire Pit & Safety Rules - Campfires are allowed in the evenings only, there is NO daytime burning ban in effect for Muskoka. - Occasionally an all-out Fire Ban is issued for the region. Please make sure to adhere to the law in this regard. Check here for the current fire rating https://www.gravenhurst.ca/en/services-and-info/forest-fire-danger-rating-and-open-air-burning.aspx - Fires are limited to the fire pit only. Please extinguish fires when done. Firewood is provided and fire starters are located under the kitchen cabinet. - There are 2 fire extinguishers, one located under the BBQ and one located on the wall beside the kitchen cabinet
6. Water Safety Usage of our shared water access point is at your own risk. We do not include any life jackets, bring your own if you need. We include 2 floaties for our guests. Our neighbours have granted us this access point, please be curteous & respectful. No swimming allowed in the space in the evenings after sunset.
