This was our second stay at The Windmill. Love the solitude and quiet. The Windmill is the only house on a small country road that dead ends at ATV/hiking trails. We took our dog for a nice long walk every morning. Will most likely stay a third time.
Extremely clean home, with everything we needed and more‼ We could not have been happier with these accommodations.. We live in a beautiful rural area but this topped our home sweet home with these million dollar views. The neighboring towns had great bars and restaurants. We rode the trails and had a blast and attended some great stock races in Darlington, which was another added bonus of the area.. We definitely want to come back and see the fall colors... If you're dissatisfied with this home, that's on you because it's absolutely gorgeous here.. If you want peace and quiet with options for controlled trail riding chaos, this is your paradise! And I had to laugh at the review that was dissatisfied with the light outside.. we were thrilled to have that added security and there was plenty of darkness to see every star in the sky, it was spectacular, the moon was especially cool from the bedroom window, as at one time, it appears to be sitting on the ground.. EPIC VIEWS‼ Thank you SO MUCH for a memory making weekend‼
Third time we have stayed at the Windmill. We live in the city, and it is such a nice escape for us. Our dog goes absolutely nuts -- in a good way. Only house on a dead end road. The road dead ends at ATV trails. Quiet, scenic, and comfortable.
Excellent property and host! Appreciated Pat bringing us more firewood, as we enjoyed that 2 of 3 nights we were there. Great location right off the trail and on a dead end road. We would absolutely come back and stay. Quick communication and easy check in/out. Comfortable beds. Beautiful view. Loved hearing the windmill!!! Thanks again for your wonderful house. It was absolutely perfect for us.
Quiet and peaceful. Close to Apple River Canyon and Yellowstone State Park. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Our dog had a blast too. We are planning on returning.
We loved our stay. This property was just as described, on a quiet dead end road. There were lots of towels and GREAT pillows. This was our ATV trip and this property is just a few blocks away from the ATV trail. We enjoyed watching the cows as they watched us. We will stay again.
Our son attends UW-Platteville, so we planned a quick weekend visit. We live in So.Dak. so the drive takes most of the day. We chose to book The Windmill because we have 2 children and 2 puppies and wanted more than a room with only beds, a bathroom, and TV! When we arrived Friday early evening we easily settled in. The puppies had lots of smells to investigate, my husband grilled burgers so we could have a nice supper, and after we roasted smores under a beautiful, clear night sky. I appreciated all the amenities inside: a kitchen much like home, a bathroom stocked with plenty of towels, and two bedrooms so the kiddos had their own space. Our daughter loved the bedroom upstairs, she had so many decorating ideas! Our son probably most enjoyed watching the calves across the way jump and play together. We recommend The Windmill for several reasons, but the absolute top is the sunrise. The colors changing as the sun slowly rose from behind the hills and the mist blanketing the valley stretched out before us - absolutely breathtaking.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Communication
This is a hard one to write because although we loved the house and the location we were very disappointed to find a very bright street/yard light. We were looking for a location that was secluded and very dark so we could view the meteor showers, Before booking I specifically asked if it was very dark there and stated our reason for wanting to know. I was assured it was dark. When night time came there was a very bright street/yard light right in the NE where we were supposed to look for the meteors. I contacted the host and was upset because she assured me it would be dark. I also asked if it could be turned off. She replied that she didn't know it had been fixed and that it could not be turned off. Needless to say we didn't get to see the meteors. We tried walking around the property to find a dark spot but either there were buildings in the way or the light just ruined it. I really hate to give a bad review because the house was great and the location was very secluded and quiet, however I feel that the host misrepresented the property to us and that she didn't care that we spent a lot of money for a dark location that wasn't. So, while we made the best of our stay and did enjoy some of it, I feel we should have received some compensation for being lied to about the darkness factor especially when I specifically asked before I booked. We would have stayed there again if it wasn't for that.
This is our third stay. We love the location. So close with great access to ATV trails. The house is perfect for our getaway. Lots of towels, great pillows!
