Roosisaar – Lake Views, Tranquility, and Wild Geese on Lake Grand Tessin
There are places where time simply stretches out. Groß Tessin is one such place—a village with barely 40 residents, situated on Lake Groß Tessin, between Wismar and Rostock, and yet miles away from all the hustle and bustle. No traffic jams, no crowded beach promenade, no lines outside the ice cream shop—just meadows, water, and the sky, which seems bigger here than anywhere else.
In the midst of this tranquility lies Roosisaar: a non-smoking wooden house made entirely for two people who want to devote a few days of undivided attention to each other and to nature. From the edge of the property, a view of Lake Gross Tessiner opens up—and those who are patient will be rewarded: sometimes wild geese fly across the water, sometimes a swan, and sometimes even a crane. High above, birds of prey circle, and if you’re especially lucky, you’ll see the neighboring flock of sheep making another little excursion through the village.
Inside, guests will find a lovingly furnished temporary home: a cozy living room with a smart TV, a bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom with a shower, and a well-equipped kitchen with a filter coffee maker, oven, stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher—everything you need to really make yourself at home here for a few days. The house is heated and air-conditioned year-round, so it’s at the perfect temperature on cold winter days as well as on cool fall days or warm summer days. Towels and bed linens are provided, and a reliable fiber-optic connection ensures fast Wi-Fi and makes it easy to work while on vacation.
If you’re traveling by electric car, you can charge it at the private wall box in the on-site parking lot right in front of the house. The lockable bike shed also offers a power outlet for charging e-bikes, making Roosisaar the ideal starting point for extended bike tours—away from the crowded main roads along the coast, on quiet country trails. It’s just a 150-meter walk to the swimming spot at Lake Groß Tessiner, close enough for a spontaneous dip in the water. Anglers can try their luck here; a fishing license and a fishing permit are required.
The bakery in the neighboring town of Warnkenhagen is a 5-minute drive or a 12-minute bike ride away, and the small town of Neukloster—with supermarkets, ice cream shops, and a hiking trail around Lake Neukloster—is 10 minutes away. Those looking for more activity will find it in the Hanseatic city of Wismar with its old town and historic harbor (30 minutes), or can continue on to the Hanseatic city of Rostock or the state capital Schwerin with its impressive castle. Both are a 40-minute drive away, as are the Baltic Sea resorts of Kühlungsborn and Warnemünde. If you’re looking for a day at the Baltic Sea with a little less hustle and bustle, Rerik is the place for you. Or how about a trip to the island of Poel?
Groß Tessin is just a 10-minute drive from the A20. There’s practically no bus or train service here; if you’re coming to Groß Tessin, you’ll need a car—and that’s exactly part of the seclusion that makes this place so special.
