You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

The Black Cabin, spacious, secluded and tranquil.

Welcome to the Black Cabin.
Your little private haven in the middle of the woods. The cabin was built in 1940 and has served as a family retreat until now. Newly remodeled, the cabin offers a modern trim with a cottage feel. Try our outdoor shower situated in the remnants of giant red wood. Explore the town and come back to a quiet and secluded refuge. Kick back and relax, no need to make the beds or finish the dishes, enjoy every minute of the house because it’s fully serviced after every stay.

The cabin does have a wood burning stove, but we ask guests not to use it and use the space heaters instead for heating purposes.

We provide a space heater but bringing your personal space heater is recommended during the chilly months.

We provide bedding for the 2 Queen beds, if more is needed. Please make a request as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate.

In addition to the steps at the front door, the kitchen has a sunken floor. Take extra care coming and going from the kitchen.

We have one security camera by the front door and the back patio, for the safety and security of the property.

Comfy cabin

We’re so glad we found this well maintained comfy little cabin that is pet friendly. We’re surrounded by a quite serene setting of trees and grass for the pups. It’s so close to so many places to visit. We love this place and have already made plans to come back!

Quiet stay in the woods!

Our family's time at the black cabin in the woods was delightful! There was plenty of room for all 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kiddos). The setting was just a couple miles from Fort Bragg, so it was perfect for our drive up the West Coast!

Beautiful spot. Bring a heater

Everything was as described and it was a great place in a great location. As the listing warns, the place can get chilly. Definitely plan to bring space heaters and/or firewood.

Short stay

Loved location saw deer grazing. Quaint. Suggest lubricating the windows and sliding glass door they are hard to open and close so we couldn’t get any air circulation.

Perfect little cabin in the woods

Loved this simple little cabin, just perfect for us and our dogs. Close to Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Quiet and peaceful. We saw Deer wander through the property.

Fantastic Location, Well Appointed

We had a great stay at The Black Cabin. The open floor plan was spacious, aesthetic is just our speed, the wood burning stove was reminiscent of my childhood and the kitchen was well appointed. The games were appreciated! We loved the location, set a few minutes out of town in a totally private spot. The yard needed a bit of a tidy up (hammock and picnic table in disrepair and some wood debris in sight) but we thoroughly enjoyed it none-the-less.

House was not cleaned in between guests

Me and my family arrived to the VRBO and all of the previous guests dirty laundry, dirty dishes, slept in beds, dirthy bathroom- had not been cleaned by a cleaning service. It was filthy. The owner had no backup towels or sheets. We had to find a new rental last minute. Nightmare!

Great location but needs some improvements

The setting is tranquil and very relaxing, in a quiet neighborhood where we had deer grazing in the yard daily. The cabin is quiet and comfortable however the bathroom needs some serious improvement. The shower is pretty much not functional if you are taller than 5 ft. Also the curtain rod in the bedroom fell off the wall the first night we were there. Also has issues getting the Roku to work. Still enjoyed our stay but things could have been better.

Quirky cabin

Super quirky little cabin. Had to contact the owner for check in information on the afternoon we arrived, they did respond quickly but would have been nice to have in advance. The yard was rather unkempt which was a bit disappointing, but with the code access was easy. Plenty parking at the front of the cabin, Inside it has been updated and is cute, it was super cold when we arrived but once we got the burner going it warmed up. There was an initial fire starter but we booked for another night so I’m not sure how we would have started the fire without fire starter or kindling. We had to leave early due to my husbands business. It’s a cute, basic little cabin, probably ideal for those who only want a base but maybe a bit too basic for us.

Quiet country near the ocean.

The property is located just out of the main Hwy 1 corridor and was easily located. The neighborhood is quiet and the property is thickly vegetated so it seems a though you're miles from anyone else. The rooms are small but relatively comfortable. If someone in your group is over 6'2" or 6'3" they should be aware of the low beam and ceiling in the kitchen. The kitchen has a good selection of utensils and pots/pans if you plan to do any cooking. I would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.

It was what I hoped it to be. Very quiet location, close to everything and had everything we wanted.

Nice quiet little house

Other than the bedrooms and bath room doors would not close completely (get stuck on door jam) it was a nice little house. Nothing fancy inside but everything you need. You do have to watch for the SMALL hard to see step from the kitchen to the living room. The location is great if you like quiet out of the way like I do, but it means driving a few miles into town or beach. Overall a nice little house.

Nice Stay

My family had a very nice, comfortable stay at the black cabin. The open floor layout worked out well for my sister to keep an eye on her 9 month old at all times as a crawled around. Only issue we had was getting a fire started in the wood stove because we don't have a ton of experience with them. I reached out to Benjamin and he contacted me right away to give me some tips. We got a cozy fire going right away. The property also had an outside shower that was a fun surprise.

Nice small cabin

The cabin was pretty clean for the most part. It was small though. When I booked, I didn’t realize there weren’t any closets. The non slip mat in the bath tub was kinda dirty but it is from being used constantly. I would recommend getting rid of it. The shower head was an issue because it is short and not functional for anyone over 5’5 which is my height. The other guests with me were taller than me in height so that was disappointing. My brother is 6’4 so he had to bend over to shower. I had seen a review posted right before the date of our stay that someone else said the shower was not functional for anyone over 5’ tall and emailed the property manager and he said he did not hear of that complaint before and would email the reviewer regarding that issue. We used a small space heater and that kept the cabin warm enough. I would suggest for the owner to have a space heater available for guests to use so guests don’t have to bring their own. The windows were big and open with no blinds to enjoy the beautiful nature outside. The front and back door were see through for the major part and that was not okay. With all the windows being open and the door being glass, anyone outside can see into the cabin which can be a safety issue. The issue with the back door being see through is that the security camera was facing towards the door so the property manager can see into the cabin and watch what we are doing at all times. The camera needs to be moved so it is right outside the back door to view into the backyard area not into the cabin to view the guests. Felt like we did not have that much privacy because of the back yard camera which was not acceptable.

A Great Stay

Very clean and fresh upon arrival. Flowers on the table and nice soaps and bath products in the bathroom. Open floor plan. Comfortable beds. The original (I think) wood buring stove warms up the whole cabin. You need to bring your own wood and kindling. Very responsive owners. A few quirky areas, but this is an older property that was been remodelled so that isnt a deal breaker. Only one area particularly in need of re-doing is the shower. This could be an issue for folks staying for longer stays. Other than that a quiet, clean and vey beautiful place. I enjoyed it a lot.

Black Cabin

This property is as advertised. Comfortable for 2 to 4. Very clean and well equipped. A good price for a nice, smaller vacation stay. I’m would rent again.
