We’d be happy to tell you about all the interesting places to visit in our cozy and charming “Bear Town,” which is over 475 years old and boasts a historic town center. For example, we also have plenty of events—both large and small—and museums. Or you can simply enjoy some true peace and quiet right here in and around our house.
In the other direction, you can leave Esens and, for example, bike right through the idyllic marshlands and perhaps even along the “Benser Tief” to Bensersiel (What is a “Tief”? Want to know more? Click here on this sentence!). This way, you’ll reach the beach feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Of course, you can also get there by car in just a few minutes, but by bike—depending on the route you choose—you’ll reach the sea and Bensersiel after 4 to 5 kilometers in a state of complete relaxation, having already breathed in plenty of healthy sea air, and you’ll be able to especially enjoy the beach and the many tourist, spa, and vacation facilities.
Our location is ideal for long walks, bike rides, and explorations of East Frisia’s unique natural landscape. This way, you can enjoy an active yet relaxing vacation on the North Sea and make the most of the North Sea’s invigorating climate.
By car, you can reach Bensersiel or the North Sea spa town of Neuharlingersiel in 5 to 10 minutes. You can also easily reach both towns by bus.
The North Sea spa town of Esens-Bensersiel has plenty to offer for relaxation, sports, and recreation—for example, beaches with playgrounds and beach chairs, swimming pools, tennis courts, surfing spots along the dike, fitness facilities, beach volleyball, fishing opportunities, and much more.
Soak up the sun or explore the beautiful surroundings and the vast expanse of East Frisia by bike. In Bensersiel, visit the “Sonneninsel” North Sea Thermal Baths, a modern, heated water park featuring North Sea water. All spa facilities, as well as a modern wellness, sauna, and fitness center, are also located there. Or head to the beach to check out the new beach complex featuring “Bennis Abenteuerland”—a covered beach area for children—as well as the maritime sports theme park with a circus tent and the seawater wave pool with a giant water slide. Go for a walk along the dike or in the Wadden Sea.
Take day trips to the East Frisian Islands and visit numerous old mills, museums, exhibitions, and other cultural highlights. Or take your children to Werdum to visit the petting zoo, which features many small animals from all over the world. Or take a trip to Neuharlingersiel. Among other attractions in this North Sea spa town, you’ll find the historic fishing harbor with its active fleet of crab boats and “Platschi,” the fantastic water play area right in the middle of the beach.
