Great stay in a genuine castle. The castle grounds were also fun to walk around, including the tree planted by the lover of Mary Queen of Scots.

Staying in an actual castle was a dream come true for this soon to be 50 year old! The room was amazing and staff were phenomenal. The food was terrific - both the basement restaurant and the breakfast room. We only stayed one night due to our busy schedule but would've loved to stay and enjoy the beautiful grounds. Price was similar to a night in a 2-3 star hotel in London, which was shocking - would've much rather stayed here!!! This was a bucket list check off for me for sure!

The castle was beautiful. We enjoyed it immensely, it was better than a museum. Lots of unique art objects. The bar looked so beautiful! The restaurant was awesome. Holly from Reception was very helpful and made our stay better. She got us packed breakfast as we had an early flight. The room was a bit smaller than I expected, but I loved the view.

Torn drapes, very poor heating and cooling. Cigarette butts overflowing at the entrance. Empty bottles stacked in the corner and on the bar of the lounge. Overall very disappointing.

It was a very cool experience to stay the night in a castle and explore the grounds around the castle. I found trails just over the foot bridge that lead all the way into town. It was the most beautiful trail walk I have taken in a long long time. Stunning!

Most of the staff were lovely and went out of their way to accommodate requests or needs. Service for meals was fairly slow, so plan accordingly. Food quality and temperatures should definitely be I Improved. While the property was lovely, the furnishings were a bit shabby and worn down. It wouldn’t take much to raise the standard and impression. Finally, the write ups and marketing should be more truthful about what can be seen on property and how authentic the current building truly is. Those looking for royalty to have stayed at the ‘castle’ will be let down.

A beautiful, historic castle outside Edinburgh. Room was very nice--bed comfortable, bathroom clean and roomy enough. Restaurant in the basement is a "must do." Steaks are cooked over a wood fire. Food was superb. Only negative was that I learned if you don't book directly with Melville Castle then breakfast is not included. I used a Expedia to book, so no breakfast included, which didn't seem right given the room prices. Overall a great experience. My wife and I would like to return sometime.

The entire family absolutely loved staying in the castle! If you're going to Edinburgh, stay here. Leave your car here and get a cab in. (no Uber in the area but just call a black cab). The staff was extremely kind & helpful. Our room was a dream, with a huge staircase up to the master bed loft. Very comfortable and clean with great amenities and there's nothing like waking up in a castle and looking out the huge windows to horses in the pasture beyond. Food in the bar was great. I hope I get to return here someday!
