Redecoration
In need of redecoration. Wallpaper loose in bathroom noisy plumbing
Brilliant weekend in Durham and this was a perfect place to stay. Far enough from the center to be too noisy but close enough to walk to the city centre and also the railway station.
The rooms were very clean, the beds comfy and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly

No food available, all of the draught beers were not available, the Inn closed at 10pm
Great staff, professional and friendly.
Good location, walking distance into town. The accommodation was clean but is very tired, needs a complete overhaul. The first room we were given didn't have a shower, the staff were good enough to swap our room with out question, however the shower in that room was very, very poor. Toilet made a loud noise when flushing, think its fair to say the accommodation needs re plumbing! Again although clean, carpets frayed, furniture tired. Upgraded mattress definitely needed.

Dated. Give it a pass if I were you.
Not great. Failed on three counts.
1 -No working WIFI
2- Arrived at 18:00 on sunday evening. No food available. Bar was closing soon after.
3- room very dated. No temp control in room.
Will not be revisiting or recommending.
Generally a satisfactory place to stay. Clean, though not sure room carpet vacuumed regularly. Mattress was the worst part! Not sure it was a regular mattress. Felt like boards & slats were penetrating through to our bodies. But know covid pandemic has hurt business & not a lot of extra money to spend on updates. Very friendly. Miss the breakfast. Would stay again.
Really friendly staff and comforta le and quiet to sleep. Only problem was that the pressure in the shower was poor but i imagine theyll sort that at some point.
I’m afraid to say in spite of the lovely lady who checked me in being super friendly, the Garden house Inn is more like the garden shed. Clearly they are having staffing problems and the entire place was in gloomy dismal darkness apart from the bedrooms being occupied. It’s in a very poor state of repair, in desperate need of decorating & most of all needs a thorough deep clean. You will see from the wall of the bathroom where dirty hands have lent across the bath to steady the person clambering into the shower. The shower is generally grubby, the shelves in the wardrobe just horrible and the paintwork on the window sill non existent. I was handed a small piece of wood to jam one window open and I used the waste bin to open the other one as neither window would stay open and it was an extremely hot evening. This should not have cost £85, more like £45 and that is purely due to the convenience of being within walking distance of the city centre .

Nice Inn with a pizzaria in the other end, lovely wood fired oven
This is a poor hotel. It may once have been OK, but is now very tired. There are many issues with this place and few if any positives.
1) Parking. Much of the parking area has been given over to outside tables. When we arrived, two cars were parked that effectively used the whole car park. I parked on the road outside, which because it was after 2pm on Saturday, was free. At other times this is chargeable
2) The initial impressions are very mixed. There is no reception area, you have to go to the bar. The staff are friendly and helpful. BUT no one was wear masks. We were then told that although Breakfast is usually included, due to COVID this wasn't possible. There was no reduction in the room rate. It seems strange that an establishment should be able not to provide breakfast as a result of COVID, but on the other hand treat it so casually that none of the staff were masks.
3) The room was not large, but big enough. Although the bed linen, and towels were clean, the rest of the room wasn't. In particular, the handles of everything, doors, drawers etc, were extremely grimy.
4) The bathroom was the worst part of the room. In our bathroom, the shower fitting over the bath had been removed and blanked off - so no shower. The bath itself was old and the enamal had come off in several places and the bath panel was badly cracked. The toilet brush was disgusting.
I wanted to raise my issues, but the next morning the only person I could find was the cleaner.
We wont be back
Parking was a little hit and miss as there were only 4 parking spaces, however, we were lucky each time we moved the car to get back in. The shower in the family room only trickles, but the water is red hot. Only coffee in the room, no teabags. Clean & tidy room and staff very pleasant

Weekend in Durham
Located near the train station and a pleasant walk into the city, the Garden Room Inn is idealy placed for a short break or business travel. We enjoyed a lovely welcome on arrival and found the room to be clean and functional, that said, it would benefit from investment in a new mattress and upgrading the decor. The bathroom was clean but the loo made a loud noise when flyshed but the shower was excellent with good pressure.
We returned to the hotel in the afternoon of our stay as the city was busy because of the bank holiday: we sat in the lovely garden space and enjoyed excellent food (amazing pizza's) and premium beers served by friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us.
5 mins walk from railway station, good location, comfortable room and was clean with helpful staff

University overnight stay
Overall we were happy with our stay. Room was good size and clean. Staff friendly and the pub was nice. The only negative point was the shower. It was either cold or extremely hot, and it wasn’t anywhere near powerful enough and the mixer tap leaked everywhere making the bathroom floor wet.
Good small pub hotel not too far from town. Could do with a make over to improve stand of the room.

On the whole the staff were very hospitable but the room needs some updating in order to make the accommodation more comfortable. The bathroom espically needs an overhaul for a good overall stay.

The breakfast was good, the staff were really nice and helpful, the room was clean. However, the room was classed as a superior room.......my room was NOT superior. It was more like a standard to basic room.
Bathroom ...the bathroom was dated especially the shower.
Every time you flushed the toilet there was a lot of noise coming from the plumbing.
The furniture in the bedroom was hand painted, poor mattress and cushion on the bed was frayed. I have never complained about a room before but sorry I expected more for a superior room.
