Some necessary pieces of information were left out of the check-in instructions
—turnoff to Peter Hope Lake resort is unmarked. Signage shows “private drive” and ‘narrow road, no turnaround’. So it was hard to be certain this was the correct spot to turn off. We initially didn’t take this unmarked road for fear we’d get stuck at a dead end with no ability to turn around
—driveway is quite steep and deeply rutted; a 4WD is necessary to get in and out (you aren’t able to use the neighbour’s smooth, gently sloping entry)
—no code for the lockbox to get the key to enter the home
—no password for the internet and no cell service made it challenging to get in touch with the owner
These pieces of information would have been good to know prior to arrival
—LOTS of stairs inside and out. This would be a major issue for those with limited mobility.
—(again) no cell service and no landline
—instructions written on cell phone booster (which works sporadically) were worn off and only partly legible. It says wait for a green light but the best we ever got was a yellow light and 95% of the time it was off or red.
—an instruction booklet for the house would be helpful
—bring your own firewood/kindling/tinder for the fireplace
Some surprises
—multiple game systems like Xbox, PlayStation but none worked
—a large quantity wet laundry left in the dryer
—the King bed was a good 3’ tall so any one under 6’ tall needs a step to get into bed
The best parts of the stay
—bright and airy
—lots of windows and high ceilings
—baseboard heaters throughout
—plenty of hot water
—we found the drinking water fine
—dishwasher, microwave, ice maker in the fridge door
—stylish decor: a beautiful mix of Canadiana, antiques and cabin themes
—lots of board games
—wood burning fireplace
—directly on the lake
—resort was virtually empty when we were there
—firepit outside with plenty of seating
—dog friendly
—multitude of wildlife—bird songs and deer
—probably great fishing, you could see fish jumping right off shore
—foosball and ping pong tables
—plenty of dishes and cookware
—bathrooms on every level
—5 bedrooms with 10 beds
—crisp linens with a selection of comfy pillows
—Owner was exceptionally accommodating and generous
—a tranquil place both quiet and relaxing in mid June
Thank you for a peaceful stay
