「If you want to have a local experience and get to know the local indigenous people, I highly recommend El Portal. It is owned and run by people from the local community. It is right next to the river, the caves and the pools of Semuc Champey. So from your room you can just walk down the river and have a swim, while chatting with locals. 「This is a very nice hotel in a quite secluded spot in which you feel outside from the urban area even if it is not far away from it. The biggest mall in Coban is 10 mins away. However, the hotel has nice cabin style rooms which seem to be new surrounded by nature, trees and wonderful birds that will replace your phone alarm in a pleasant way.
