Loved the Location

Cabin was as described. Two couples with 6 kids (ages 3-11) cabin easily accommodated. Loved the fenced yard which worked great for the little kids and the two dogs.We also really enjoyed the dock for swimming and playing in the water. The ice machine was great to have!We would definitely book again.

Great, pet-friendly cabin!

The property was perfect for bringing our dogs! Great outdoor space, fenced yard and dock. We were able to go for walks around the surrounding farmland which the dogs loved. When you think of a cabin, this is the picture in the dictionary - everything is wood and dark. It was rather chilly while we were there so we played lots of games and watched movies. The television was not the most updated but we really only used it at night. The owner was very responsive and helpful.

What a great peaceful getaway

My family and I stayed here for a long weekend getaway. Much needed family time that we never take the time to do. Couldn’t have asked for a better place. The swings on the back porch and gazebo with a lake view were so peaceful. Very nice quiet area. The cabin itself was awesome, beds were very comfortable. Would rent again for sure. Good communication with owner, seems like a great guy!

Everything was fine. Furniture is a little old and uncomfortable. Everything worked and no major problem. Everyone had a king bed and their own bathroom, which was a big plus.

Fall break at Smith Lake

Very clean property. Comfortable cabin. Kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. Kids had fun swimming on the dock - too cold for me. Dogs had a blast too and the fenced-in backyard made it more enjoyable not having to worry about dogs wandering off. Enjoyed outdoor fireplace at night and cooked s'mores with family. Rented a boat from local marina and had a good time enjoying the beautiful scenery. Overall great trip to Smith Lake

Awesome family retreat, everything is beautiful, comfortable and special!!!

Our family just spent the week at Cody's Cabin! Wow, one could not ask for more fun in the water, sunbathing, playing games on the large Dining Room table, watching a movie and relaxing. This is a most special place with every convenience! Love the decor of the interior and the splendid outdoor views. Home is very child friendly for our grandchildren. Loved every minute! KPL PS: The Owner was considerate and kind in checking to see if we found everything in good order.

We loved the cabin but it was really hard to find. Also the place hadn't been cleaned in a while. Pots and pans and dishes were dirty. Dishwasher was not working

Great place for annual family trip to Lake!

My family really enjoyed this rental! It was easy to get too and loved that the pier was not far from the house with very little steps down to water. Plenty of parking for our 5 cars. Some of our family had to drive 2 cars due to work and was worried about parking but there was plenty of room. The house was very clean, very spacious, and we loved having 3 King size beds! I loved it was pet friendly. The fence is not conducive to small dogs as they may can get out through boards. There is one place on fence where a board has come off but we managed to put a chair there to keep our dogs from finding it. We had medium to large size dogs and it was nice to not have to worry every time we let them out. The kitchen is very well stocked with more than enough dishes, glasses, cups, pots, pans, cookware, crockpot, coffee pots(2), etc.....You do need to bring your own liquid dish soap if you like to wash some bigger items instead of using up space in dish washer. They do provide you with plenty of dishwasher pods though. You also need to bring own hand soap. Some lake rentals provide it and some don't. I meant to bring some but forgot it , but our daughter was able to bring us some, so it wasn't a problem for us. Communication with owners were very easy and prompt. We loved that the living room furniture was VERY comfortable with enough seating for our family. Some beds were more comfortable than others but we do not expect it to be like you are at home. Having large bedrooms with 3 kings, 3 bathrooms , plus the loft was Great! I also loved that the outdoor grill was large, new, and under the covered front porch , especially since it was raining during our stay! It worked great and had plenty of propane. We rented a boat from Triple Creek Marina that was very close. They even delivered boat to us which was great! We Would definitely stay here again. Thanks for sharing your home with us so we could have family time on the lake.

Fire hazards, mice, poop on pillows, and no hot water

My family opted to do a cabin for what was likely our last Christmas together (father has cancer). Upon arrival, we saw mice, lightbulbs were out, and smoke detectors were dead. We contacted the property manager and spoke to the owner about these issues. We thought things had been resolved, but, throughout the entire weekend, smoke detectors continued to die, and we kept seeing mice and finding poop on pillows, beds, and in the kitchen and cabinets. We also had no hot water in the primary master due to the tankless water heater being located outside and severe cold temps (which is why most are inside), and the faucet in another bathroom was broken. When we brought the hot water issue to the owner, he dismissed this and stated there were 2 other bathrooms and to just use them. We traveled a long ways to this place and other similar/surrounding options were booked due to the holiday so relocating was not accessible. Because of this and being told the detectors would work, we stayed. Our disastrous weekend ended when we emergency evacuated at 5AM due to smoke filling the cabin - NONE of the smoke alarms went off. We opened doors to ventilate the smoke while we evacuated ourselves and major belongings. By the time the fire department arrived, nearly 45 minutes later, a lot of the initial smoke was gone. The FD said if we had not called, the entire house would have caught on fire and burnt down within hours due to an electrical fire in the crawl space under the house. Luckily, one of our group woke everyone or this could have been far worse since none of the detectors sounded. The owner was unresponsive for hours after this emergency despite multiple attempts to reach him. When he finally responded, he minimized how severe this incident was and could have been. We selected this cabin because of its overall reviews, but, I should have read the owner's responses to anything less than 5 stars - they are passive aggressive and dismissive - which was the same trend to every problem we encountered. I’m glad to have my family home and intact.

Wonderful Property

Cody's Cabin is a great vacation spot on Smith Lake. Adults will enjoy the spacious floorpan, well equipped kitchen (with a gas grill on the adjacent porch), three bedrooms with king-sized beds, each with a private or semi-private bath. There is a nice porch facing the lake with a large deck and outdoor fireplace below. A path leads from the deck to the Gazebo on the rock cliff over the water, and then to the ramp to the floating pier. The owner is very helpful and knowledgable about area attractions and can assist with guided fishing tours, boat rentals, hiking, kayaking and off-road adventures. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and plan to visit again next year. I wanted to take a moment to comment on some of the other reviews. Smith Lake was constructed back in the 60s as a watershed for power generation. It has developed over the years from a fishing lake to a recreational lake, and the properties along the lake reflect all eras of development. That is why you can see a million dollar property with a trailer next to it. It is all part of it, and rarely detracts from the stunning views of the granite rock faces along the lake. The other thing to note is that the cabin is named for the owner's dog. The owner brings his dog to the lake. He does not allow guests to bring pets because of the damage they can do. This is not unusual - I have found this situation at many vacation rentals across the country. I did not find any evidence of a dog being in the house - no pet hair, etc., and I had no problem with allergies - and I'm allergic to dogs & cats. I would also point out that remote homes are not on public sewage systems - they are on private septic systems. I know this is hard for urbanites to comprehend, but most of us familiar with vacation rentals know how to handle a septic tank - what can be put in it and what can't , and why there are limits on the number of occupants based on the size of the septic system. The owner communicated the fact that the house was on a septic system when I rented. As to the cameras, there was a camera at the front and back door facing away from the house - part of the owner's security system. I didn't have any issues with this and did not feel as though I was being "spied upon," but then again, I didn't do anything I shouldn't have been doing in the first place. I hope that this review is helpful to you.

Great Pet Friendly Home

This place is not perfect. But is is close - for us. There is a little dust. It is very pet friendly, with a super convenient fenced back yard that corrals both a small dog and a young child. There is not a speck of paint inside - the interior is natural wood finish top bottom and sides. The decor is “lodge” — charming, warm, and relaxing. We enjoy the waterside covered table and glider swing, as well as the wooden geck just out the back door - snores in its brick fireplace. Three spacious bedrooms downstairs with three bathrooms — two dedicated and one shared with the main living area. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, kitchenware and spices — we used a bit and left some new. The water is deep one step off shore. But the ground slopes gently to the water - No Cliffs! Many properties have high cliff faces on this lake. The house and proper facilitated a Great week with family, and we would look forward to staying here again!

Family Memorial Gathering For Loved Ones

Our family of seven gathers once or twice a year to celebrate our grandson and oldest son's lives. The outside area was so pleasant. We enjoyed the rockers and swings very much. Having two coffee pots for this coffee-drinking family was a big plus. This is a time of remembrance and reflection for all of us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cody's Cabin. Our host was so kind and accommodating. He allowed us to bring our dogs, which we greatly appreciated. The cabin is beautiful. We loved that the king bedrooms are on the same floor. We wished we could use the hot tub, but in all fairness, it was not listed in the accommodations. The bedroom and bathroom doors need some work, as they are hard to open and close/lock, but we made it work.
