The good: The house is large, the pool is heated, it’s in close proximity to the beach and grocery stores, and the rental agency was responsive.
The bad: This house was built in 1995 and hasn’t been touched since. It’s a rundown rental and in desperate need of TLC. The exterior is moldy, the decks are old and in desperate need of paint, the pool / pool deck are worn out, and there is general bits of damage everywhere.
But what really surprised me were the fees for not cleaning the house. Every rental has check out procedures, but this one came with fees for not taking the trash out ($50), not emptying the dishwasher ($20), and not stripping the beds ($20). Requiring your tenants to be the maids is bad business. Cleaning fees should be part of the rental cost, not the responsibility of the renters.
If you’re a frat looking for a cheap house to trash on a graduation party, this is it. If you’re a family looking for a nice vacation home, shop around.
