  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. The room was clean and nice. The assistant manager (I think her name was Shaugnate) was very helpful and had a wonderful personable attitude. I hope you do everything to keep her, and make an effort to hire more people like her.

Fantastic price for a Fantastic room. Loved our full mini kitchen it was so perfect for our stay. I was worried as we drove 2.5 hours to Columbus and finding our hotel amongst abandoned buildings was scary. The hotel is so safe and we encountered nothing but friendly kind ppl staff and people staying. I would 100% recommend.

Room was very nice but the lighting was terrible - no decent bright areas, especially if you are looking for them to get ready in. Also didn’t get the room I booked - booked kind suite with pull out couch. Got there and it wasn’t available, was offered regular two queen room or queen suite with a pullout recliner that was so small it wasn’t suitable for sleeping on. Hotel itself has been beautifully renovated but the parking lot was a mess. Staff was very professional and kind.

Will stay again!

The room was clean and comfortable. I should have asked for a room away from elevator and staff room, woke me earlier each day with drilling happening next door and the elevator chime all the time. Was conveniently near expressway, loved Dove products. Would stay here again, it was 18 minutes from my family.

We had a beautiful trip to the Boston area, which was made so much better being able to come back to this hotel and relax. The room was clean, comfortable, with everything you needed for an extended stay.

I reserved a room with a roll-in shower through Expedia because of my wheelchair bound wife and received confirmation. At check-in I asked to be sure and was told the room one. However as is too often the case, the room had a bathtub instead. The bath had multiple grab bars for which we were grateful. Still, transferring was tenuous and I need to insist on the shower. With that and the exception of a very icy parking lot, we were pleased with the hotel. The room was very clean, and the suite offered a lot for the money. The staff was accommodating, and the bathroom was spacious, however the bedroom itself was tight for a wheelchair "accessible" room. The description on Expedia states that there is a restaurant inside the hotel. That is not the case anymore but there are several nearby. All in all, the hotel is a good value.

The staff was great! I stayed for 8 days and specifically booked this hotel for the kitchen. I had no issues at all while I stayed. The staff was awesome every time I interacted with them and even other guests were pleasant. Loved having the mini kitchen so I didn’t have to eat out all week. And free laundry is a great perk! Just remember to bring some detergent pods or something.

We could not have been happier with our stay, the staff, room, facilities and the overall hotel - it was great. We were well looked after from the moment we got there, always greeted with a smile when we arrived no matter the time of day/night and the staff were always happy to help whenever we had a query. You can see the staff have a lot of pride in keeping the hotel looking tip top and making the guests feel comfortable, often you are welcomed with the lovely smell of fresh laundry which made the whole experience feel very homely and as well as the rooms being fully kitted out with everything you need, they also have a food/drink station just in case you ever need anything else. Shaneque in particular was incredibly hospitable and always more than happy to help, she made our stay feel very comfortable. It is a shame the area is very dilapidated and can at time feel unsafe if you're an outsider, but this did not reflect on the hotel at all.

It was nice to have the kitchen and the room was clean. However on check out day the manager on duty was walking around outside and came back in and was watching the windows. She proceeded to tell me that there was a car jacker outside and that she had called the cops and brought the guys bike inside. As we was getting ready to pull out he had followed a guest in the door got his bike and took off. While the manager was on top of it, it still was a little of an uneasy feeling to know that this was going on.
