Wow! This is a fantastic open plan modern property in a wonderful location at the inexpensive top end of Lake Como. We could not recommend this property more highly. The interior is new and spotlessly clean with great facilities, and large sliding patio doors opening onto an enormous garden, lovely pool, and views to the surrounding snow capped mountains.
We, as grandparents from Scotland, arrived with a family of four adults and four children under four, to be greeted by a wonderful welcome and were provided with food, wine and lovely treats for the youngsters. Every effort had been made to accommodate our large family, with extra beds, high chairs and cots, all in as-new condition, provided for us.
Colico, at the top of the lake, is refreshingly unspoiled and un-touristy, yet with attractive waterfront restaurants, cafes, and all important ice cream shops. With small children, walking from the property to the centre was not realistic, but it is only a few minutes drive away, with plentiful parking alongside a children's play park. A huge shopping centre is just 10 minutes’ drive away.
The spectacular mountains and beautiful Lake Como make for a great and scenic holiday, with daily ferries to take you down to more famous resorts like Bellagio and Varenna for exciting day trips, with train travel an option depending on where you wish to go.
Like so many guests, apparently, if the weather was fine we tended not to stray far from the property's magnificent garden setting. Aside from the pool, there is play equipment to amuse young children and an extensive landscaped area with attractive plants, good barbecue with equipment, and outside paved areas with tables for eating al fresco - one usefully under cover and the other higher up the garden.
Inside there are good facilities and equipment, a well fitted and roomy kitchen, again with table for eight adults, fridge, freezer, TV, DVD, and attractive covered balconies providing a useful respite for weary grandparents needing a pre-dinner drink.
The property, garden and facilities are wonderful, but the outstanding feature of the holiday here is the hospitality of the hosts, Claudia and Beppe, who could not be more helpful or delightful. Nothing is too much trouble, even down to arriving one day with a tray of cakes when they discovered they had a guest celebrating a birthday.
It is this which will make their business venture here a success. We all had a wonderful holiday and hope to return.
