My small vacation apartment (34 square meters) is located in a well-maintained vacation complex in the beautiful village of Altenau in the Clausthal-Zellerfeld district of the Upper Harz National Park. The apartment has been recently renovated and furnished with new furniture. It is bright, inviting, and solidly built to ensure that no noise disturbs your time off. On the balcony, which faces southwest, you can enjoy the sun until evening. The view looks out onto the vacation park with its beautiful landscaping and fountains. In the evenings, starting around 10:00 p.m., families of foxes come out of the forest into the park, hoping to find some treats left behind by dog owners. Next door is a new spa, which attracts many visitors from the surrounding area with its wide range of amenities and dining options. There’s a bakery right around the corner, as well as a bus stop with good connections. The picturesque town of Altenau is about a 10-minute walk away and offers several restaurants, cafes, a pharmacy, a supermarket, and a free forest swimming pool surrounded by nature. Around Altenau and Clausthal-Zellerfeld, there are countless hiking trails with numerous lakes and streams. From the apartment, you can start a loop trail to Hüttensee, which you’ll reach in about 15 minutes. Or how about exploring a stalactite cave, visiting a mine, walking the treetop trail, or stopping by a wildcat sanctuary? Of course, a hike up the Brocken is a must. Nearby towns include Goslar, Osterrode, Braunlage, Hahnenklee, and Bad Harzburg.
