Perfect for a weekend getaway

We booked for a last-minute Memorial Day weekend getaway. We hadn’t been to this part of the Blue Ridge mountains before and our usual locations were booked. I’m so glad, because this area was gorgeous. The neighborhood/resort itself has hiking trails, and we toured Grand Caverns, which we all liked even better than Luray Caverns. The cabin was perfect for our family of four and it was nice to have the convenience of the on-resort gas station and market, where we ordered a pizza our first night. We had a fantastic weekend and have already looked to see when we might book this cabin again in future.

False advertising and a rodent

When we first arrived, we found a dead mouse on the floor of the second floor bedroom. The listing also mentioned the property had a pool and a sauna. The day we arrived we found out from the property manager the pool is not available. The sauna didn't exist. We made the best of our trip, but I would have picked a different property had I known the listed amenities were not actually available.

Very Cozy Cabon

Our group 60-something ladies thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Wintergreen & the cozy cabin we rented! It thru VRBO!! The cabin was rustic & cozy. We liked hanging out on the deck in the mornings and around the table or living room playing games & drinking wine!!

Perfect cabin

The cabin was in a great location on the wintergreen resort. it was the perfect size for my family. We were able to walk to the main lodge (about a mile) the kids loved it

Great Stay

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a long weekend in the cabin in the woods. The leaves were very colorful, and we spent most of the time exploring the surrounding areas in central Virginia. The cabin was perfect for us, and we really liked the quiet location.

Needs to be updated

I want to start of by saying that we have enjoyed our stay due to the surroundings of the house. Wintergreen Resort is an amazing place. We did not go to ski but hiked every day and we did no have to go off the mountain for hiking trails. The resort has tons of very nice hiking trails. We rent a lot of houses through VRBO and I have never written a negative review.... until now... The house itself is really in need of an update. It is old, small (much smaller than pictured and less beautiful than pictured too- the pictures are taken in HDR which gives a nicer look of the house). We had very low temperatures and it was hard to keep the house warm. The beds are so terrible ! We changed from room to room to see if we would be lucky but non of the queen beds were comfortable. The twin beds were better. The second bathroom has a shower but that is only for kids, an adult can not stand there. The internet is not stable at all there. We had to make a hotspot on our phones so our kids could go on internet. Before we left, I wrote the property manager to ask if there was a washing machine as we could not find that on VRBO. I never got an answer so I had to pack more clothes (We travelled by car so we try to travel light). Once we arrived we saw there was a washing machine and dryer. Not happy with the property manager at all! We would love to return to wintergreen but will not return to this property as long as no updates on this house are done. I would recommend to look for a similar property on the resort. The resort is amazing !

Mountain Top

The cabin was great with plenty of room. It was nestled at the top of the mountain (I do mean top) with the sun coming up in front of the cabin. To make things even better was the Indian summer weather that allows us to enjoy the deck. I would certainly go it again.

Great stay!

We really enjoyed the cute decor and “homey” feel of the house, however it was smaller than depicted. We enjoyed the deck, and the indoor fire place also! And very convenient location for hiking/walking.

Good location. Overall, very please with property. Very clean. Initially funny smell but after often doors it went away quickly. Need a toaster (unless we couldn’t find it).

Great Mountain Cabin

We had a great stay at the property, which is conveniently located to all Wintergreen activities and hiking. Lovely, cozy house and was very clean. However, the queen bed mattresses (especially upstairs) are worn and really need replacing. We will gladly rent this lovely home again - once those beds are replaced!

Quaint Mountain Cabin

We had six adults in the house and the house’s size was so convenient for us to all hangout while we cooked meals and hung out by the fire. It’s a little tight in the sitting area but we really didn’t mind since we were gone majority of the day. The hosts are also so responsive to anything you need. Great house for a quick get away weekend!

Great cozy cabin

This was a very nice and cozy cabin. I would just say that it feels smaller than the picture on VRBO looks. The rooms are all small. That is fine, but I would say that 6 adults would be really pushing it. The upstairs shower is in a bathroom with a slanted roof so you can only shower there if you are 4' tall or less. The bed in the upstairs bedroom also needs to be replaced. There is a moderate indentation in the middle resulting in the feeling of sleeping on an incline. You will roll towards the center of the bed at night.

Nice cabin but not large enough for 6 people.

We planned to have six but luckily only had four in our group. Six would have been entirely too tight. The main seating only accommodates four and the living room is well decorated but very small.

Perfect base camp for our trip. House was cozy for the 6 of us (4 adults, 2 boys). Great location, central to great hiking trails north and south of 64.

Weekend Away

The physical property and location are terrific. Close to resort amenities and hiking trails. The house itself is small, smaller than it appears in pictures, but a nice setup for what we were looking. A nice size for 2 couples. The house was advertised with a gas grill however when we arrived, with food to cook over a grill, we found out the grill was an older charcoal grill... and we had no charcoal which forced us to change our plans and make other arrangements. Additionally, the mattress on the bed in the upstairs bedroom, was in bad shape. It was clearly an old mattress that sunk in the middle and was very uncomfortable to sleep in. The living room furniture was acceptable, but could also stand to be replaced (the seat cushions and back pillows have lost their shape and firmness). The kitchen was outfitted nicely and had most everything for basic meal prep. However, there is no real kitchen light except for a light over the sink. All of the lights in the range hood over the stove were burned out and when cooking at night, we were forced to use our cell phone light to see what we were cooking. As a summary, this was a nice property but it certainly needs to be updated. With updated furniture, we would stay here again.

Family Get Away

Our first trip to Wintergreen and surrounding areas. It was a great experience and so much nicer than staying in a hotel. Will definitely recommend the area and Fernwood to others!
