Welcoming owner and adorable property in a great location within walking distance to the bus station, shuttle, cute shops, good restaurants and charming streets. Very nice breakfast and the owner willingly and graciously stored our bags while we hiked in the nearby Pyranees for 3 days.

This hotel is a family run hotel. The staff are very attentive and willing to help. A home made 4 course traditional French cuisine evening meal is available and is prepared by the family. The evening meals are excellent as are breakfasts. This is a lovely, traditional French and charming hotel. I can't rate it highly enough. The tortoises in the coart yard just added to the hotel's charm and were suprisingly nifty.

Lion D’or is a very VERY charming hotel in a great location across the street from the thermal spas and extremely close to everything in Cauterets. Toma, his aunt and mother run a lovely gem of a hotel and our stay there was perfect!

Great large bedroom with retreat, property location and hosts. We felt very comfortable during our stay. Enjoyed the daily breakfast, drinks and charcuterie during the afternoon. We visited the nearby waterfalls and hiking during the day.

Highly Recommended

My wife had injured her leg skiing and the hotel very kindly and efficiently allowed us early check-in. The staff were warm, friendly and courteous and made us feel cared for. We had a lovely traditional dinner in the restaurant which we very much enjoyed. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and we would definitely return.

Perfect stay

This was an excellent place to stay. I happened to become sick just before we arrived, so spent all my time in the room and was very comfortable the entire time. It helped that I had a view of the mountains from the bed. Clean, comfortable, spacious. Tea kettle. It was everything I needed. The breakfast, which I could finally eat on the last day, was superb -- local foods, home-baked breakfast cakes, good coffee and tea.

This family owned hotel is in the heart of Cauterets. The hotel is older and is evident when you walk the stairs and hallways where you can feel the slant in the floors. The room was very large and clean, with older french style furniture and curtains. The bathroom is very modern and had a large soaking tub. Like many French bathrooms, the toilet was in a separate “closet” outside the main bathroom, and although this is a bit odd at least this one had a hand sink inside. The breakfast was typical French but extra special because it included homemade breads, jams and fresh squeezed orange juice. The hotel is centrally located to everything and had great walkability. Free parking is available on the back street of the hotel. The hotel has a lovely courtyard on the first floor, and the surprise was seeing the eight tortoises, who have been in the family for generations that the family cares for. The gondola wasn’t open yet when we visited. Cauterets is a charming town and wish we could have stayed longer. We had a fantastic meal at Natural Takka restaurant and liked the food so much we ate there 2 nights in a row! We bought new hiking shoes at La Cordee shop where we had excellent service. She measured our feet for size and found out the hiking shoes we were wearing were too small, so we ditched the ones we had and walked out with our new ones and feet feeling much happier. The spa is directly behind the hotel. Staff was wonderful and very helpful.

Excellent dinners available on Saturday and Sunday when many places are shut down. Breakfast was so good with fresh orange juice and many delicious pastries, breads, and other items. Staff was very responsive and helpful.

What a fantastic stay. Room we had was huge including a fridge and drink making facilities. Only issue was kettle was damaged by previous occupant but still usable. Staff were great. free parking was available close to the property. Cauterets is lovely, though be aware if going between winter and summer seasons some restaurants and shops maybe closed as we found to our cost on the day we arrived.

This is a charming hotel in Cauterets. We came from the USA for a short hiking trip after spending time in the wine country. 4 nights total. Great day hikes! Daily breakfast was great. There's no AC, so nights were warm. I'd recommend to buy a fan at a hypermarket or similar place to use at night. There are very entertaining tortoises in the courtyard, don't miss them!

Quaint hotel

This is a quaint hotel close to a lot of restaurants and shops. We were there in June, so it was off season. Lots of places were closed but the hotel itself was great!

What a beautiful hotel. The Lady at the front desk, (I assume she was the owner ) was fabulous.cShe prepared an amazing meal for dinner and also hosted a fabulous breakfast the next morning. The room had everything you would need.
