The area is a popular holiday destination with many historical sites to visit together with places to visit such as Loch Arthur Tea Rooms which is also an outlet for locally grown and produced produce and particularly excellent cheeses.
South West Scotland is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty which can be enjoyed from pleasant walks within the Galloway Forest Park or along the Solway Coast. Cycling and mountain biking is superbly catered for with quiet country roads and excellent mountain bike routes on the 7Stanes Forestry Commission Trails, the nearest of which is at Dalbeattie, while Mabie Forest is also just a short drive away. Golf courses abound be it recreational nine hole courses or testing Championship Link Courses such as the one at Southerness.
