  • REACHING NEW HEIGHTS … THE TELSTRA TOWER The Telstra Tower is seen all around Canberra but is it worth going there? We thought so. It is something to do just once and perhaps best to pick a day which is clear blue skies, little to no wind and no rain. Located at the top of Black Mountain Reserve, the drive itself is lovely even a bit hairy at times. You see, Canberrians are extremely healthy people, they love their bicycles and that’s great. However, on a windy steep road lined with bush on each side, wildlife, flora and fauna and spectacular views, it’s hard to take note of all these things as you are dodging these healthy but crazy cyclists. At the top, there is plenty of parking and the Telstra Tower stands proud. There is an entry fee and a family ticket is just $17. Once you have paid, head through the turnstiles to the lifts which will take you to the enclosed viewing platform some 870 metres above sea level. There you will discover 360o panoramic views over Canberra and beyond. Another quirky edition is the red vintage post box. There is a café and plenty of seating. If you are feeling adventurous, head up the stairs to the 1st outdoor level with the same views but this time no glass blocking the view and there is another level above that. Only recommended when no rain and slight wind. When we were there, it was an overcast day but it was a nice experience all the same.

We had a really enjoyable week in Canberra and appreciated this impeccably clean, fresh and modern apartment to call home. The apartment is very comfortable with multiple heating options, and extra blankets for the chilly Canberra winter. WiFi and Chrome Casting are available. The apartment is in a quiet and handy location to supermarkets and cafes, and in close proximity to the venues we were attending in Dickson and Braddon, and within a short driving distance to many tourist spots in Canberra. Most items were supplied to facilitate being able to cook meals in the apartment kitchen (saucepans, crockery, cutlery, glassware, utensils). I would recommend an oven tray and oven proof baking dishes, as well as containers or cling wrap/aluminium foil to be able to store leftovers. Wooden or plastic cooking utensils would also be useful to avoid scratching the new non-stick cookware. I found the mattresses a bit hard but my child liked his mattress. I would recommend this apartment if you are looking for accommodation for up to 4 people as it is a 2 bed + 2 bathroom apartment with kitchen and laundry facilities, and free parking. Thank you to our host for effective communication before and during our stay. We look forward to returning in future.
