First, I’d like to point out the highlights of this abode. The view is tremendous. And, if you’re an airplane buff, the end of a small local runway is directly in line with this hillside apartment. The noise was not an issue. The outdoor seating is abundant and adequate. The beds are comfortable and the inside is decorated in an antique-y funk. But here are details the VRBO website doesn’t mention. First, the road leading up to the hillside apartment—I say apartment because someone lives on the second story—has sharp turns, crumbling parts of the road and a serious blind corner that is not for the faint hearted. This was not an "entire house". Second, we had a hard time finding this place. The VRBO website sent us to the wrong district. After using three GPS systems with no good result, we compared the address on the website to the address on our confirmation receipt. The street names were spelled differently. We called our host who put us in touch another woman who spoke no English and could not give us directions. Even with the help of Goggle translate, all attempts failed. Finally, we drove to the Residence Napolean and asked for help. The receptionist, who spoke fluent Italian and English, called our Italian contact who sent a non-English speaking man on a motorcycle to meet us. He escorted us to the apartment. What should have been a ten-minute drive up to the VRBO turned into a frustrating hour-a half. Elba Summer was of no help whatsoever.
