    Practical Tips

    • Supermarkets: Nearest large stores in Colne (Asda) or Nelson (Morrisons) and also Clitheroe (Tesco, Booths, etc.). Barrowford has also Booths and The Spa shop. Smaller essentials available in nearby villages.

    • Parking: Ample space in the village (paid car park near the picnic site for walkers). It does get extremely busy at weekends, so it is better to walk along the riverside into Barley.

    • Weather: Pendle Hill can be windy and changeable — bring layers and good walking boots. Check the forecast before heading up.

    • Dogs: Many local paths and pubs are dog-friendly —but you may need to keep your dog on a lead due to livestock.

    • Wi-Fi / Signal: Mobile signal can be patchy on Pendle hill and is not great on the way to Barley, once in Barley there is no signal but you can get Wi-Fi at both pubs; Wi-Fi in the property is very good and reliable.
