Cheap Cheerful did the trick, check in is via email and texts, and wanting a photo, glad I bought my passport.. especially as technically I didn’t need it, was only travelling from home to Brighton, room could do with a good clean and broken plugs as well, bathroom was freezing so didn’t use shower.. was noisy at night

Misleading not a hotel
This is not a hotel, you are booking a room to stay. Noone is on-site to help. We booked for 3, no appropriate linen left to make up sofa bed. Shower is dangerous. Huge shower head in a tiny shower cubicle that suddenly turns burning hot. Warning sign to keep bathroom door closed as if fire alarm is triggered you will be charged for call out fee. No storage space as wardrobe as used to store a fan, mini fridge, toaster and plates. Good location and nice old building but don't be fooled this is a usual hotel with facilities or a "spa".
I arrived after 6pm and it was very difficult to contact staff to arrange late check-in. 10 spaced calls to finally get someone to answer the phone just at 5:45pm, 3 unanswered emails. I could have lost the window to check-in, lose my money and need to find another hotel.
No soap or toiletries, just a roll of toilet paper and the shower has to be very quick otherwise it floods.
It's cheap but still do not recommend
This was an absolute nightmare from finally getting into the property to leaving the following day and i was booked for 2nights. The room is a pit, the décor is depressing and thoroughly disappointing. There is no 24hr front desk , there's not even a desk and when you try to contact them it just repeatedly goes to voicemail they are totally uncontactable. we left a day early as we could not bear another night in there. If your young and travelling, its a bed for the night, but like us, for a family it was a hell hole. The pictures of the rooms on the sites are fake the room looks nothing like it and you are expected to pay £100 damages deposit, which i hope i get back as other reviews say they didn't get it returned.
I was lucky to only stay 1 night leaving early the next day. I had a single room which i was fine with but the small single bed was against the door on the landing. This meant I could hear everyone who came in or used the stairs. I could even hear conversations from the other rooms. I expected the room to be small as it was a single but it was even a squeeze for me. Its an old style property and the layout of the room isnt great. The electrical sockets are so old, you struggle to get your plugs in. The decor is tatty and old but luckily it was white (painted a while back). My friend was staying in a room in the same hotel but it was painted completely black. The door entry systems are a bit odd where u have to try several attempts before they work. I couldnt see the digits in the key lock as it was in a black landing with hardly any light, impossible to see. Theres no sign on the Hotel and only a door number, looks dodgy. I wouldnt rush back to Otto.
Soft beds, just enough space, and a clean room at a bargain price! The rooms were a little cold, and the wifi wasn't the most stable. But if you're prepared to walk a bit from Brighton station, it's well worth the price.
Property was clean, staff were friendly, good location.
Family rooms are at top of building, so a lot of stairs to climb. Wouldn't be good you had small children and all their things to carry

Overpriced but good location
Very small room for the price, shower was tiny. Only good thing was location. No Aircon so was very hot
Small hotel in trendy Kemp Town. Very small single room with tiny bed, looks a bit like a cabin from a ferry ship! Old but clean bathroom. Not air con or a fan, extremely hot and difficult to sleep! No breakfast room either! Good price! Polite receptionist!
The chap that was running the hotel was extremley friendly and seemed to be doing a bit of everything. Rooms were good, had tea and coffer in them and towels. For the price of a room on a friday night, i had no concerns. Also the hotel is in a great location, eadily accessible and close to central Brighton.
A lovely and clean property with friendly staff. I got a free upgrade to a double room. There was some noise from other guests in the corridor one of the nights, and the door on the room was hard to shut; you have to open it wide, then let it slam shut to lock it on the way out.
Clean property with friendly staff, and only a short walk from the town centre. My only complaint was that the shower taps leaked a little, and it was a cramped shower cubicle. But overall very happy with the price and condition of the room.
i knew this was a budget hotel, but didn’t expect large, sharp, broken tiles in the bathroom - plus broken lamps on the bed side tables.
Whatever was being cooked downstairs by the residents (there are no communal spaces in this hotel) stank really bad.
The beds were very low cost divans that are falling apart and the duvets were about as thick as a towel.
Not gonna return ever again!
Wouldn’t stay here again but was okay for one night

Good option for a cheap night stay
Condition of the building could have been better but for a cheap stay in Kemptown close to all the nightlife it's hard to get better value

Booked last minute and relatively cheap for Brighton. Room quite small with compact shower en-suite. Room at top of house so no TV signal. That said WiFi, clean sheets, room clean. Pay for what you get.
