  • This will ever be known as the chateau of Josephine Baker. She had been a singer of international renown with an extraordinary career. Born in the States in 1906, she emigrated to France and became a citizen in 1937 when she married a Jew, but not before knowing the street life in America where she’d had to sleep in cardboard shelters and scavenge in garbage bins. For ten years she was the lead in the Folies Bergeres, and admired by all who saw her. Shirley Bassey once said, “I swear in all my life I have never seen, and probably never shall see again, such a spectacular singer and performer." During WWII She won the Croix de Guerre for her work with the French Resistance. When the Germans invaded France she moved to the chateau where she helped Belgian refugees and ultimately adopted 12 children. She was the first Afro-American to star in a major motion picture (Zouzou) and was the only female speaker in the civil rights march to Washington with Martin Luther King and was offered the lead in the movement when he was assassinated but she declined. When the builders refurbishing the chateau sent her almost broke, Grace Kelly, a close friend, offered her accommodation on the Riviera.

Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour dans cette belle maison idéalement située pour pouvoir visiter tous les joyaux alentours. Nous la quittons à regrets mais nous espérons bien revenir. Si l'on souhaite passer de merveilleuses vacances au calme, entouré de verdure, cest l'endroit parfait !

Un fabuleux séjour !

Nous tenons à remercier chaleureusement Sandrine et son mari de nous avoir permis de louer leur charmante maison de Berbiguières pour ces 15 jours de juillet. Sa localisation en Périgord noir en fait un lieu idéal ! Nous avons ratissé l'ensemble des grottes, gouffres, chateaux et jardins aux alentours (de 10 à 30mn de la maison) et bien évidemment profité des randonnées en canöe pour le plaisir des petits et des grands. Maison aux beaux volumes : chambres, salle à manger et salon très confortables. Cuisine très fonctionnelle et très bien équipée. Décoration simple néanmoins poétique et raffinée. Petits plus et non des moindres : linges de toilette fournis, lits fait à l'arrivée et ménage de fin de séjour compris... De vrais vacances 😉 Malheureusement, assez frileux, nous n'avons pu profiter de la piscine aux belles dimensions. Un séjour inoubliable dans cette si belle région qu'est la Dordogne ! À très bientôt j'espère

Excellent séjour: je recommande vivement!

Mon mari et moi venons de passer 15 jours dans cette propriété avec nos parents âgés d'environ 75 ans. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour dans cette maison parfaitement équipée et spacieuse. L'environnement est très calme: une voiture est cependant indispensable pour se rendre dans les villages alentours et aller faire les courses (notamment dans le village de St-Cyprien à 5 mn en voiture). La propriétaire a un contact sur place qui nous a remis les clés à notre heure d'arrivée et s'est tenu à notre disposition en cas de problème. La piscine est très agréable et même vivement conseillée par temps de canicule. L'endroit est idéal pour pratiquer la randonnée ou le canoé-kayak sur la Dordogne. Nous sommes partis à regret car nous commencions à nous sentir un peu chez nous dans cette maison!!!
