Enjoy rustic charm and modern comfort with an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, and a stone fireplace. Relax on the screened porch, unwind in the hot tub, or gather around the outdoor fire pit with stunning Grandfather Mountain views. Just minutes from Beech and Sugar Mountain Ski Resorts, Hidden Gem offers the perfect blend of privacy, charm, and convenience.

    The space

    Hidden Gem is a charming rustic cottage nestled in the woods right beside Lees-McRae College and just a short walk to downtown Banner Elk. This peaceful retreat perfectly blends cozy mountain charm with modern comfort.

    Inside, the home features three spacious bedrooms all located on the main floor—a great setup for guests who prefer to avoid stairs. There’s also a loft area with two low twin beds that’s perfect for kids but may not be ideal for adults. The inviting great room centers around a classic wood-burning indoor fireplace, creating the perfect spot to unwind after a day exploring the High Country.

    Step outside to a large single-level deck with comfortable seating, a wood-burning outdoor fireplace (a guest favorite!), and a bubbling hot tub. The hog-wired fenced yard is perfect for pets—dogs are welcome!

    From the back deck, you can enjoy soothing sounds of the nearby falls—possibly Mill Pond Falls—adding to the peaceful mountain atmosphere. While you don’t have a direct view of Grandfather Mountain, the property still offers lovely mountain views surrounded by serene woods.

    And despite its proximity to Lees-McRae College, the area is incredibly calm. The campus is quiet, and weekend noise is rare—if you see ten students at once, it’s a crowd!

    Whether you’re sipping coffee by the fireplace, stargazing by the outdoor hearth, or strolling into town for dinner, Hidden Gem offers a cozy and convenient escape right in the heart of Banner Elk.

    Guest access
    You will have full access to the entire property, including the screened porch, hot tub, game room with pool table, outdoor fire pit, and private backyard. There’s also plenty of parking available in front of the cabin.

    Other things to note
    Hidden Gem borders Lees-McRae College, and there may be occasional noise related to the school. Please note that guests must be at least 25 years of age to book. Smoking, and parties are not permitted.

    AWD or 4WD is highly recommended during the winter months if weather conditions are adverse.

The host was excellent to communicate with. All went well. Only the Hot tub wasn’t working for us which was a main reason we wanted to stay here. yet everything else was outstanding. the beds and furniture was very comfortable. We enjoyed playing pool. and grilling in the grill. it’s worth the atay

Great Location

House was perfect for what we needed. Plenty of bathrooms and beds to not feel cramped. Would definitely stay again. House was perfectly located between sugar and beech mountain. Easy to get to everything we needed.

Family wedding getaway

We gathered for a family wedding outside of Banner Elk. This “Hidden Gem” was absolutely perfect for our family of three couples. The amenities including pool table, outside fireplace and hot tub added extra entertainment! The beds were all very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed! We loved being able to walk to meals in town! I highly recommend this home!

Great Getaway!

We had a fabulous time in Banner Elk! Hidden Gem is in a great location, and it took only minutes to get to the town. The house was clean and cozy, and we enjoyed a fire each night! The porch off of the master bedroom was incredible. We enjoyed playing darts and resting in the swing bed. The bars and restaurants were great and everyone was friendly! My friends and I would definitely stay here again!

Family Friendly Rustic Getaway

Our family loved this house! The hot tub and outdoor areas were perfect. There is construction going on at the college that is pretty close to the house but didn’t impact us at all (only getting thru it to get to the house). Management company was easy to deal with and communication was a breeze.

Great cabin

Enjoyed this cabin. Everything went smooth. Some confusion on the loft area that was listed when I booked but then removed and host wasn’t aware of it. Hot tub didn’t work but host responded quick and had it checked. Would definitely stay again!

Great getaway

Property was as listed and very clean upon arrival. Outdoor fireplace on the deck is a great addition & a very relaxing area to spend time with friends/family. Hot tub wasn’t working at the time, but the host responded to resolve issue very promptly. If we go back to the area, we would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a great getaway location!

Thanksgiving holiday

We stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday to visit with family. We loved the layout of the cabin. The beds were comfortable (it was a plus to have queen & king size beds). Plenty of hot water for six adults to get showers. It was so cozy! We played pool, built a fire, and enjoyed the hot tub. We would definitely stay here again. Suggestion - It would be nice if a crock pot was available to use. I had to borrow my niece's.

Cozy mountain cabin

We enjoyed staying at the Hidden Gem. It was clean and stocked but could have used a little more attention to dusting. The indoor/ outdoor fireplace was great and we enjoyed several cozy fires. ( firewood well stocked)There are plenty of games to play.The location was very convenient to town but a bit disappointed in seeing and hearing the major construction going on next door which we weren’t expecting. Overall a really good experience and would recommend.

Summer Evening Solitude

The house is spacious for a group of 6 adults to relax in the evening. It is clean, comfortably furnished and has a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of hot water. The only neighbors are Lees-McRae College and a house across the road. The back deck has a view of the mountains. On July evenings, we could watch fireflies and listen to the chimes of the college bell tower -- very relaxing after a busy day. We will return.

Rustic getaway

We felt like we we staying in a ski chalet dating back to th 30's. High beamed great room with massive stone fire place. Rustic old comfortable furniture. Bathrooms had all modern amenities and the one bed we used was very comfortable. TV's in all rooms, some with premium channels. Modern kitchen with ample utensils. Great outdoor deck with amazing hot tub and hugh fireplace looking to the mountains. Complete privacy even thou downtown Banner Elk was a three block downhill walk. Good value.

Awesome location

Overall property was very nice and the location was amazing. We walked down to downtown Banner Elk frequently. The rental itself was ok…we are major clean freaks and actually had to reach out to the management company to have a vacuum delivered since one was not at the rental. Outdoor fireplace was great. We did not use the hot tub as it was not super clean looking and the ants are pretty bad on the hot tub and deck. The pool table was great. The management company was very fast to respond. Overall our experience was a good one although we would probably choose a different rental in the area if we return.

So close and convenient to town, walking distance to lots of things. Perfect for college graduation weekend, we were able to just walk over to the ceremony. Several amenities we didn't have time to enjoy and would definitely go back again.

Great location right in downtown Banner Elk. We absolutely loved hearing the college bell go off every half hour. The beds were super comfortable and the outside living area was a common meeting place for my family. We enjoyed the fireplace every night we were there. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. Hot tub was clean. We would definitely stay there again.

Absolute gem! Beautiful location, great views from the porches, enjoyed the hot tub. Kitchen had everything we needed! My daughter loved sleeping on the sleeping porch! Beautiful bathrooms, plenty of living space! We had fun playing pool and resting! Incredible spot for all!
