We're pretty chill, but this is the only VRBO we have ever had a problem with in about 15 rentals. It was so bad that we immediately walked out, even though we got there at 11pm. Initial impression was "This house with the melted siding could not possibly be it". It was. Inside was no better. It was grimy and unsafe. There was a hole in the bedroom wall, a spider web with spider under the master bed, toothpaste on the bathroom counter, walls/doors filthy with hand prints all over, flooring was broken. One of the bedroom doors had been kicked in at some point, hopefully to successfully rescue someone from the fire that melted the siding. Worst part: We got a text at 6pm day of that someone was staying downstairs. I said fine, thinking it was a separate apartment and we're not loud. Nope, split level home with a shared entrance and dog gates separating the 2 levels. Guy could walk upstairs whenever he wanted. I could see into his apartment. To compensate for this lack of security they put keyed locks on all the bedroom doors. Master bedroom had a bottle opener on the key which was a nice touch. FYI you can't have Keyed locks on bedroom doors in NY that don't immediately open when the inside latch is turned, it's a fire hazard. It was listed as a 3br home. None of this was disclosed in the listing. What if we brought kids? Do we lock them all in at bedtime? The good: they left a tube of lotion on the kitchen table and 1/2 filled bottle of mouthwash in the bathroom. Not charming.
