The location of this great cabin/house is so great for cycling & hiking at DuPont State Forest.(Also very convenient to Hendersonville, Brevard, Pisgah National Forest, Saluda and Mountain Bridges, with all the amazing scenery and outdoor activities those places offer.) The house and grounds are very comfortable, spacious, peaceful and interesting.
Everything we needed was there. Kitchen's great. A couple of nice trails are right out the door, w/ a fun, challenging scavenger hunt that my grandsons (and their parents, (and I) all ) really enjoyed doing. Steve, the caretaker, downstairs is super friendly and helpful. The fire pit was a big hit, w/plenty of split wood available. (Don't forget marshmallows at Ingles!) I gave this 5 stars, but I do have a couple of reservations- BE VERY CAREFUL ON THE STAIRS! The bedrooms are all upstairs, and the stairwell has a unique"false" landing" with a wide 2nd-to-last step that can fool your brain into thinking you are at the bottom. I went down on that dang thing and had a pretty painful weekend, (even though I stayed upright on my bike all weekend.) Also, the wooden steps that lead out to the backyard fire pit area are more narrow than normal, so just be extra careful the first few times, turn on all the lights, (there are plenty.) Hopefully David, the owner, will remedy the steps/stair landing issues before someone gets expensive-hurt. Otherwise, this was a great place to stay and I would stay again!
