Surrounded by history, local life, and nature just a stone's throw away, this is a fully renovated traditional house that blends old-world charm with modern comfort. The name "IRIE"—referring to the fern in the local Basque dialect, a plant abundant in the surrounding area—gives the home its character, reflected in botanical details and materials chosen to create a fresh, harmonious, and tranquil atmosphere. 

Situated in the heart of the Debagoiena valley, Aretxabaleta is a town with a distinct identity. It is surrounded by gentle mountains and green spaces such as the Urkulu Reservoir—a gateway to the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park—and Mount Murugain. Its town center boasts heritage gems, including a collection of ancestral manor houses and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, alongside a vibrant local scene featuring shops, bars, and markets offering local produce. 

The Basque-Navarre Railway Greenway runs through the town, offering routes to the nearby municipalities of Eskoriatza and Arrasate-Mondragón. The outlying villages surrounding the town center create a beautiful landscape dotted with traditional farmhouses and parish churches; it is an ideal setting for hiking and for embarking on more challenging climbs up mountains like Kurtzebarri and Orkatzategi, which encircle the Urkulu Reservoir. 

Ideally located in the heart of the old town, Aretxabaleta serves as an excellent base for exploring inland Gipuzkoa while remaining close to the Basque Country's major cities: Vitoria-Gasteiz is just a 30-minute drive away, Bilbao takes one hour, and San Sebastián is about 50 minutes away. The Sanctuary of Arantzazu is 24 kilometers away. Irie is located on the first floor of a building without an elevator. 

This is a timber-framed home—reflecting the traditional style of the Basque Country—that accommodates four people and features three cozy bedrooms: two with 1.50m-wide double beds (one of which includes a study area, a private dressing room, and an integrated balcony) and one with two single beds. 

The house includes a dedicated office-style area, providing an ideal space for work. It also boasts a spacious, modern, and functional full bathroom with a shower, making it perfect for both family stays and getaways with friends. The fully equipped kitchen—including a dishwasher—is separate from the living room, maintaining the classic yet updated layout typical of Basque homes.

The warm, spacious living room—complete with a chill-out area—invites you to unwind after a day spent exploring the local area. However, the true luxury lies in the large terrace: an outdoor space perfect for leisurely breakfasts, al fresco dinners, or simply relaxing in the sun. It features a covered section that offers shelter from the rain, all while being located right in the heart of Aretxabaleta. 

Easy, keyless access entry to the property is fully digital. Before arrival, you will need to download an app to check in and unlock the doors, eliminating the need for a physical key handover. A €200 security deposit is required; this will be refunded in full at the end of your stay, provided everything is in order.
